Sun Wui Restaurant — Restaurant in Bay Roberts

A few weeks ago my Girlfriend and I walked into the restaurant and hoped to eat. As it was, extremely busy, we was not able to get a table without having a reservation.

Today we made a reservation for 2 of us for 5pm. We arrived 10 mins early and were seated right away. We were the 2nd table to be seated with only a table of 4 ahead of us. We decided to share a combination platter #10 (most expensive platter), a dish of Lemon Chicken and an Egg Roll. The Egg Rolls were served as an appetizer and then we waited for 1 hour and 10 mins to finally get our food.

Meanwhile, there were 4 service staff who couldn't be bothered to remove the plates from the table from the Egg Rolls without me actually asking them to take them away

At least 6 person came in for take out food which had picked it up within 5 to 10 mins.

There was another table of 8 that came in after us being there for 45 mins that had to call out to a server to order drinks after being seated 15 mins already.

Nobody checked back with us on how we were doing at any point.

The service was probably the worst that we've ever experienced. They really need to step up their game. They need to have a leader who knows about good service. Because these guys don't even know that they are...

If you’re looking for authentic Chinese food, you won’t find it here. Heck, even if you’re looking for Americanized Chinese food, you won’t find it here. My first terrible experience was on a visit in October, 2023, when I ordered Kung Pao chicken. What I got was some kind of gooey stew of chicken and some vegetables - bland as bland gets. And it was missing the key ingredient for this dish: peanuts!

But maybe it was a fluke and I gave them another chance in my current visit July 6, 2024. I ordered General Tao (yes, they misspelled it on the menu) chicken and, remembering how bland the Kung Pao chicken, I asked it to be extra/super spicy. What arrived after an almost 1 hour wait, was another bland dish and, worse yet, the chicken appeared to have been fried in old oil. So disgusting, I gave up on the dish after a few bites and helped myself to half my wife’s curry noodle dish - which was actually half decent.

I really can’t believe this restaurant has such a high star rating - dont Newfoundlanders...

Horrible Service. Went there with family of 8-10 for birthday. They don’t take reservations. Understandable I guess. But they said you have to wait for tables to open up to put together for our size of party(all tables seemed to be roughly the same size). Which was still ok. But then they said , if a smaller party shows up and they have tables available for their size party, they will get priority over us which completely blew my mind on a restraint that operates on a first come first serve. The waitress we were trying to talk to was not very friendly at all. Maybe they were having a bad day and very stressed or understaffed. Not sure, don’t really care. Either way we didn’t feel like a valued customer so our hundreds of dollars went elsewhere.

They said basically you could be waiting anywhere from 30min to a couple of hours. Soooo we left and went to a different restaurant and got immediate service. Food at a glance didn’t look overall appetizing.
