Ā Ā Ā Read moreI spent a lot of time picking up food at Friends when I moved to Edgemont as a teenager. Margie, the owner was so hands on and really perfected the menu and her products. I had my favorites that were always hearty and large sized. I no longer live in Calgary but have returned when Iām in the area a few times since there has been a new owner. I just happened to be in the area and wanted to pick up a few of my favorites, craving those chunky, hearty galaxy squares confetti square and a few muffins. I really wish the new owner had not changed the portion sizes and not changed a thing. The menu is the same but the experience is totally different. There was a lot of chaos happening in the front and the employee who took my order took a large paper bag and just threw everything in it. He didnāt take any time to put the muffins in their own bag. He squeezed the top of the bag together and handed it to me like it was a bag of dirt. The cashier couldnāt figure out why my card wasnāt being accepted so when it went through she asked if I could open up my bank app to see if ur went through. I left opened the bag up at home and saw how I felt robbed. $25 dollars for five baked goods. They are all at least nearly half the size of how they used to be. Now they are $4.95 for something that should be $3.00. The bars and muffins used to be double in height. I know thereās a lot of inflation going on, but I was just at Lazy Loaf and Kettle and they have kept their baked goods the same hearty size for 20 years without any drastic price increases. Friends used to be at the same caliber. The sandwiches have also been a disappointment. Much smaller and more expensive....
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThird time here, busy place. Had soup and sandwich today. The young lafy taking our order was so confused with prices she charged and how to correct it and over charging with the correction, it just made you want to give up and leave. After getting the veggie sandwich with turkey added and the tomato Florentine soup, $16.90 I felt was a ridiculous price for soup and sandwich. I asked if the sandwich was big and full of the contents anf they assured me it was their largest sandwich. I'm not sure what their idea of large is, but it wasnt this sandwich. I dont think it was even an inch thick. Evelyn's in High River, you want a big thick sandwich, they know sandwiches.....not here. The soup was SUPER acidic! The tomato taste was to overpowering! I know its tomato soup but there are was to tame the acid from the tomatoes and it wasnt in this soup. After a few bites, I had to return it as my stomach just couldn't handle the acidic taste. Didn't both with a nice coffee drink as their prices are way to inflated, I'm not at Starbucks! There is no place to put ut empty food dishes and No one was coming arpund to take them off the tables, but yet it was still full and busy. Maybe I'm missing something still. Their treats look good but...
