UPDATE (from previous review over a year ago): I have to say I am impressed how well the new owners took the review criticism on here to heart, and extremely improved. It is basically almost as good as it was before, as it will most likely ever be (obviously never going to be the same with different cooks, inflation prices, and trying to get the same ingredients as a decade ago). BUT it is amazing now. We kept ordering despite the change, and saw the gradual improvements that they considered from the reviews over the past couple years that made a huge difference.
We will continue to order from this place still for our milestones, as it is still by far the best Chinese we have tried till date in Calgary.
Thank you for considering the opinions on here, and I hope you continue to be as great as you are. I highly recommend this place.
*Also if you pick up in person, they are extremely considerate and friendly. Great people to have taken over.
(Old review)
It has new owners now and can defintely tell the difference. Was a tradition with my family to order from here for special occasions for the past couple decades every year, but unfortunately now we are going to look elsewhere. The food doesn't taste the same, lots of dishes have bare to little sauce on it and when you do get lots, its so overwhelmed with garlic and salt (coming from someone who loves a lot of both) that its almost inedible. Hopefully they can go back to the old recipes they used before hand since its such a shame its gone so...
Read moreHello Winnie, and to the team who create magic with their cooking. By far the best Chinese food ever, that I have ever eaten!!! I mean across the map! I grew up working in Chinese food establishments, I learned a lot about their culture, devoted work ethics, and their gift to create a special food experience. I rarely form an opinion online, but this I had to write. Before I ever even knew this magical place existed, I always search for the best eating experiences, before I dive in! When I first read the reviews I was pleased mostly with their findings, however to all the people that spoke negatively about these wonderful people, and their unique gift to appeal to every palate. I say to you, you naysayers, you have no idea what you are talking about. You either have numb tongue syndrome from smoking, or no taste buds whatsoever! I know food, and I have never seen a business more concerned about their customers having a great food experience. Even willing to add to the recipe to the customers liking. I have tried many of the dishes, and their ginger beef is exquisite! The mixed vegetables in garlic sauce heaven. I am honored to recommend this restaurant. To all who want a genuine Chinese food experience for the 1st time or the 100th time. This is the only place to eat, and celebrate. I luv, luv, luv you guys!...
Read moreI came here for the first time per recommendations in online groups, I ordered the dinner for 3 which came with Spring Rolls, Won Ton Soup, Chicken Fried Rice and Fortune Cookies and Choice of 3 items ... fortune cookies were forgotten but not a big deal. For 3 items got Ginger Beef, Lemon Soo Gai, and Salt and Pepper Squid.
Service upon pick up was good and friendly however I didn't realize at the time I wasn't given the 10% off for cash pick up as menu states.
And to the food, Ginger Beef and Fried Rice were OK didn't hate it but definitely not the best ever as recommendations stated.
Lemon Soo Gai was EXTREEMLY over breaded and DRY sauce barely helped to soften it up.
And Salt and Pepper Squid was absolutely terrible batter was super heavy and dense and the Squid itself not tender plus lacking in that Salt and Pepper flavor ... definitely worst I've had.
Where they did hit was the Spring Rolls ! Those were very delicious
Overall not the worst but definitely not the best, further reading reviews here there has been a change in ownership recently and that may be the issue not sure as never had food there under old ownership.
Would I order again ... possibly but most certainly not my 1st choice and would definitely omit the Salt and Pepper...
