I do not mean this to be a scathing review of the Cowbell Brewery. This is only my opinion of my first visit. First of all I had made a reservation 2 months in advance for myself and my wife to have dinner. Once we got there we were seated at the equivalent of a high top bar table. There are no regular dining tables for a couple to be seated at and they are obviously unwilling to seat 2 people at a table for 4. This is a serious oversight in planning. Couples are going to want to go out for a nice dinner and not have to sit in a bar setting. The tables that are in the dining area look like they were thrown into the room and were left where they landed. It resembles chaos. Secondly is the food. We started with crab cakes. They were crispy on the outside and were nothing but bland paste on the inside. We also ordered a procuttio and arugala pizza. This had a good flavour but the crust was not cooked in the center. I have a suspicion that their pizza oven was not hot enough or the cook not experienced enough. Regardless the dough was not cooked. Except for the bar and dining area the rest of the building seemed well thought out. A walk upstairs reveals the inner workings of the brewery and a couple of rooms dedicated to corporate events or meetings. One thing worth mentioning to the management was the gentleman with "Security" written on his shirt who was drinking a beer and quickly hid it behind the upstairs bar when my wife spotted it. The layout of the bar somewhat perplexed me. All of the taps are against the back wall which seems wrong to me. A bartender is not only there to pour drinks but to engage the customer in polite conversation. This is hard to do with their back turned to the customer. Cowbell Brewery does produce some good beer but as a restaurant they need to decide if they are a pub or a dining room. The menu leads you to think you to think they are more than just a pub but the quality of the food and the surroundings in the dining area need serious work and improvement. Overall it is a magnificent building to look at and explore. I do hope there are improvements made in the near future since it has the potential of being a great dining experience. The one thing I won't do again is wait 2 months to be seated at...
Read moreJust had dinner here for the first time , unfortunately it was not at all what we heard about. We started off with a group of seven, four adults, two teens and one child. That will get you an automatic 18% added to your bill for a tip. Tips should be earned not just given out before you even talk to a server. Then we ordered our food, I asked for sweet potato fries, and extra $4 which is way to much. Food all came out together which was nice but no sweet potato fries . The girl said we didn't have any so she just put on fries. I said I can't eat fries and could I get a salad instead. She said I can't I'm not your server, I'm to busy and left . Our server came over and said sorry about the sweet potato fries and said he can get me a salad without croutons . 30 min later no salad. He came back and said did you not get your salad and I said no. He went back and said they put croutons on so they will re make it. 15 min later as everyone is finishing desert I get my salad. Half way through I eat a crouton, then find two more. I'm not celiac but if I was that could send someone to the hospital. We told them everything needed to be gluten free. I let the server know and said he would take the extra charge off for the side and then took off the two deserts . That was ok but I don't think that's really making up for it. He at least tried so I still tipped . Food portions for everyone was small. We were all still hungry. The burgers are tiny for $23. A small size of cheese cake was good but $12 is a little much. One pizza two burgers and no drinks , with tip $90 . That's crazy! Building is cool, the one server he tried but if I'm spending that kind of money I don't want to walk out and think we'll now we need to...
Read morehad a really great experience. was a bit shocked that the wait for a table inside was an hour, but they were able to give us a patio table within 15 minutes. was concerned about it because it was a bit cooler outside, but the heat lamps helped a lot. the staff was extremely friendly and knowledgeable. wait times for drinks and food weren’t bad. got the roasted chicken which was good, just a bit dry. the mashed potatoes and potato salad were great, it all looked homemade. the lamb burger was really good, and so was the caesar salad, but the dressing had a strong mayonnaise flavour to it. wasn’t bad by any means, just noticeable. the waitress was even kind enough to flag me down after i forgot my leftovers on the table as we left. the tour was spectacular. such an amazing establishment. they are so involved in the community and doing such great things to reduce their carbon footprint as a brewery. i was extremely impressed to learn that a local brewery was making great contributions in the world of craft brewing. the beer selection was great, it was nice being able to get a flight of beers and try a bunch. and they even use biodegradable straws in their caesars. the story teller was very personable and friendly. impressed that the sparlings have created so many job opportunities for people in the small town of blyth. look forward to coming back to try their anniversary beer and trying some of the recipes from the craft beer cookbook they sell. also impressed that they don’t use the normal plastic rings to hold their beer packs together. it’s nice to be able to buy a pack of 8 beers with one of each kind that they offer from their series.
excited to see what they come...
