This restaurant is completely undeserving of all their good reviews.
After reading all of the reviews praising Mum’s bakery and restaurant, I was excited to try it. Immediately after stepping into the restaurant I could sense tension between Debbie (the owner) and her waitresses. The first waitress who served my family and I was visibly sick, she had a runny nose and was sneezing. This should have been our first sign to leave the restaurant. Shortly after a few bites into our food, we noticed the batter on the specialty dinner, fish and chips, was completely raw in some spots. We notified the waiter and she took the dish to the chef. The chef told us that because the fish was fried some spots may be raw, that’s just how frying food works. Not only does this highlight poor frying skill but also admits that the restaurant feels confident serving customers raw batter. After examining the second piece of fish we noticed the batter on both pieces were severely undercooked. We decided to take the issue to Debbie, hoping to be met with concern and empathy unlike the cook. To our disappointment Debbie was extremely hostile and rude. She stated that “that’s just how it is”, and said to “scrape it off if you don’t like it”. It was obvious to us at this point that Mum’s has extremely subpar standards for their food. We ultimately asked for the bill to be adjusted as only a couple bites were taken and it was not worth the risk of food poisoning to continue eating. Debbie begrudgingly obliged. Prior to asking for an adjustment, my family and I were extremely polite and quiet about the situation, trying not to disturb other customers dining experience or make a big scene. So, it was to our surprise when returning the bill to us, Debbie decided it would be appropriate to throw the bill at my mother instead of handing it back.
To my understanding Debbie is trying to sell the restaurant and retire, but in my opinion if she cannot meet customers with kindness or at the very least serve edible food, she should just close Mum’s...
Read morePlease Do Not go here if rudeness and disrespect are your pet peeve. I wish business owners in tourist destinations understood that people visiting are often looking for a good time and memorable happy experiences, a visit to Mum’s Bakery added a bad experience for us. Horrible service - the server was running out of patience. She was patronising, expected us to be quick, like skim through the menu and know what you want, not that the options were too many, but we wanted to take time and decide what to order. 30 seconds in and she seem to have a problem with us asking for a moment to place an order. She told us to put the menu down once we have decided, when we decided and put the menu down she looked over to our table and did not take our order. The place was not busy at all, she was busy chatting with someone else but serving us and enjoying a tip (which is customary when we eat out) definitely made her day, while she choose to treat us horribly, huff and puff, and just simple patronising. One might have had a bad day, rubbing it on people who bring you income is just not worth it. When one is in a customer facing business, I wonder how do people (like the server in this case) feel about being nice. We did not plan to visit a rude...
Read moreChanged so much. The staff were blunt and not friendly for both our visits. We arrived at 6:40pm (20 mins before closing) we were told "no take out orders" and so we left. The next day for breakfast they were closed even though their hours sign said they should be open. The next morning they were open and I tried to purchase pastries. The displays were full of condensation making pastry viewing difficult and nothing had title cards. When I asked about the items I received blunt "duh" like responses. They use to have the best homemade bear claws and tarts but the options now were disappointing. Looking more like FoodBasic store bought. Lastly, one evening we preordered and picked up pizzas. The pizza was not very good. Spongy dough and the cheese was chewy and pulled right off (definitely under cooked but we preordered 2+ hrs before). We put it back into the oven @450⁰F to recook at the cottage for 15 mins to make it crispy and decent. This was all within our one week vacation so maybe they were having an off week but I expect better. They've...
