I usually go to a one delight buffet chinese restaurant in town. Today, I decided to try a different Chinese restaurant and I was very disappointed. I had ordered roasted pork, chicken almond with fried rice combo and spring roll. . Service was prompt, portion was big but the food was tasteless and terrible. Rice tasted old rice or plastic rice (?) but definitely it did not taste like any Chinese fried rice I have eaten. There is after taste/smell that was quite unpleasant. Looking closer, the rice grain did not look like real rice. It seems coated with some odd layer (plastic?). I rarely waste anything but this time, i had to throw all my rice away. I ate the other 2 dishes and noticed that instead of getting the whole section of the 2 main dishes filled up, half of their space was filled with rice on top of already having the main section filled with the same horrible rice. It was a real disappointment and therefore I will not return. I ordered similar combo at A one delight 2 days ago and their food tastes like it should be and portions were great (no rice fillers at the bottom of the main 2 dishes) and the rice was yummy. I rarely write reviews but I feel that I had to write this one because the rice tasted awful with a plastic after-taste, they cheated on the main dishes portion and their food was tasteless. I am not sure why the chicken was so white (almost as if bleached) And also, i got only 3 small thin slices of roasted pork in the whole dish which is quite little amount of pork. I also did not receive any cuttlery, had to go to dollarama to get myself a fork and no hot sauce included. Anyway, I hope that everyone else has a better luck than me but as far as I am concerned, this one will not be on my to...
Read moreI decided to give this restaurant a shot the other night, because it was late and most of the Chinese restaurants I like were closed. I normally get food from Win Yeung Garden and Tang Dynasty, which are easily the two best options in Bowmanville. They both offer something different, and I like them for different reasons (one is cheaper, the other is healthier). Both have good food, though.
The only other Chinese restaurant I like in this area is the one near Grandview. Golden Gate Takeout and Delivery (at Townline) is awful.
Anyways, I ordered a dinner for two combo and brought it home. The food was ready quickly, and the person working the cash was nice enough.
The food? Not so good.
The rice tasted really bland, and didn’t taste very fresh either. It was very, VERY mediocre and that is being generous. I normally don’t need to put anything on my fried rice to enjoy it, but drowned this in soya sauce for the above mentioned reason.
The next dish was beef and vegetables, and the beef was an odd colour. It didn’t look fully cooked either. It wasn’t horrible, but wasn’t particularly good either. The meat was kind of greasy.
The egg rolls were okay, and the tiny chicken balls were decent, but I quickly decided that I won’t be going back to this restaurant again. The food simply isn’t very good, and there are at least three better options nearby.
I had gotten food from Great Wok once before, but it had been quite a few years. I remember not being crazy about it the first time around, but was in the mood to give it...
Read moreThis place has genuinely changed my life. From the very first time I ate here, I knew it was something special, and now it’s become my go-to spot for comfort, quality, and satisfaction. I always order the same dish, partly out of habit, but mostly because it’s just that good, and somehow, every time I eat it, it tastes even better than the last. The flavours are bold, rich, and perfectly layered, with each ingredient complementing the next in a way that feels carefully thought out. It’s always served piping hot, straight from the kitchen, with steam rising off the plate and that mouthwatering aroma that hits you before you even sit down. The texture, seasoning, and temperature are consistently perfect, like it’s made with love every single time. The portion sizes are incredibly generous, so much so that I can rarely finish the entire plate in one sitting, which means I almost always get to enjoy it a second time later. The leftovers are just as delicious, too, which says a lot about the quality. The staff are friendly, attentive, and clearly passionate about the food they’re serving. You can feel that care in the atmosphere as well—it’s warm, welcoming, and full of regulars who clearly feel the same way I do. It’s rare to find a place that delivers on taste, quantity, and experience so consistently, and I truly can’t...
