After reading the reviews about Mel's Spicy Thyme I had to check them out. I've been twice this week since they're in my neighbourhood. Once for lunch and then tonight, after a class I needed to stop for a late dinner.
I'm ashamed to say I was one of "those" customers who walks in 10 minutes before closing time with an order for myself and my hubs. I would have totally understood if I caught a little shade, but I didn't. I was met with a gracious and jovial entrepreneur who was ever so kind while I waited for my food. He made me feel so welcome even though I know I was interrupting their closing routine. Such a beautiful family running this place, the kind of people you want to support in our community.
Ok so the food!! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
We ordered jerk chicken roti, curry chicken roti, and doubles. I've never had a "double" before...holy Bananas that is the best thing I've ever tasted. There is something fresh that goes on top that just makes the delicious curry, and tender barra sing!!!! Their hot sauce needs to sold commercially (to the owner, please get on this, you'll make a fortune).
While I feel like I could keep these folks in business on my own, I encourage everyone in town to visit. They have a pretty extensive menu and hand made desserts on offer. I promise you won't be...
Read moreYou know it's good when you go back for the same thing you had earlier in the week. My dad got the goat roti and I had the 5 veg roti. We added bake and salt fish along with an order of doubles. The doubles were soo good I'm contemplating going back to order 2 more for my lunch tomorrow. I really enjoyed the bake and salt fish... now it's not my culture and I got introduced to this dish going to soca fetes and buying it from a man selling food after. It's not a dish I've had many places, he did his with some shredded cabbage and veggies on top soo my only issue is this one was it lacked that crunch of veggies that I was familiar with. My dad loves goat while I ummmm don't. I snuck a piece just for the review and it was soft, tender and flavorful. The 5 veg roti... man it hit the spot. I only really like West Indian and Indian dishes when it comes to vegetarian food and this roti was heavy on my mind since my dad randomly bought it and I ended up devouring it. I woke from a nap craving it and it is what made me return. High praise for a meat heavy eater. The coconut roll was soft and not tooo sweet. Just the way I like it.
Excited to return and try more (especially seafood, fish and...

Last Friday, we had the pleasure of dining at Mel Spice Thyme – Spice Island Cuisine, a fantastic West Indian restaurant. We tried the jerk chicken roti and all veg roti and doubles, and both dishes were absolutely delicious, bursting with authentic flavors and perfectly spiced.
We also had the chance to meet Mel, the wonderful host behind it all. She was incredibly warm, welcoming, and passionate about the food and the experience she offers. Her hospitality truly added to the charm of the evening.
While I did click a few pictures of the food, they didn’t quite do justice to how amazing everything tasted. But trust me, this place is a must-visit if you’re looking for a genuine taste of the Caribbean...
