next episode of Kitchen Nightmare; Ramsay Burger Canada?

Yes I am not going to lie, I have seen a few loose episodes of Ramsay’s Hell’s Kitchen and Kitchen nightmares, but nevertheless, never a fan of celebrity chefs as they are more then often nothing more then just a show.

When I heard Gordon Ramsay opened a burger joint in Coquitlam’s Hard Rock casino, I was kind of excited in checking it out but its online reservation was like almost a month wait. Luckily one of my customer went there and told me there’s hardly a lineup and you can just walk right in. I guess their online reservation needs some updating? I decided to take a chance and do a walk-in after doing some shopping at Coquitlam center. And my customer was right, there was no lineup and the restaurant was only 1/4 full at the most.

Here were the food I ordered;

Banana milkshake. Very generic Oreo crème brûlée milkshake. If you like sweets and milkshakes, this is almost a must order. The taste is very well put together to satisfy most sweet tooth. Kettle chip nachos. The kettle chips tasted like old overly fried potato scallions in old oil and the braised beef tasted like a can of corned beef from the dollar store. As for the rest of the ingredients, merely a joke of a presentation. This reminded me one of what my buddy from uni served us in his basement living room during a drunken hangout. Failed! Hellfire chicken wings (Hellfire tangy sauce). It looks delicious! And that’s all it was, looked! Other than that, its meat were dried to the bones; for sure nothing heavenly about it. Lobster & shrimp roll plus extra $4.50 for truffle fries. For $31.75, I had better ones at Salty’s and even Saint Germaine’s lobster roll for $16 is wayyyyyy better in terms of quality and price than this one. Tasted more of a lobster shrimp salad than anything else. The only saving grace was the truffle fries, I find it very tasty!!! But had to pay $4.50 extra to substitute from the normal fries. Farmhouse burger with caesar salad ($3.50 extra for the salad). First bite, it’s like biting into the sand of the Sahara desert! The patty was stiff and dry, you can literally use it as a frisbee. There really isn’t any secret science in making a tasty juicy burger! Besides the runny egg, this was literally one of the worse burger I have eaten in a longgggg time. Absolutely failed especially for this $30 burger with a small salad. It makes Wendy’s $3 JBC look like heaven.

Overall, I am absolutely disappointed by the experience especially I have a bit of hope and expectation from a burger joint supposedly labeled by one of the most talked about celebrity chef. The service was pretty basic and with the amount of staffs, there really shouldn’t be so many dirty tables and the floor could be cleaner. The food quality was absolutely horrible. This burger joint definitely belong on its own restaurant nightmare show and be reconstructed otherwise I can see it shutting its doors in the near future. It is quite evident already, freshly opened and only 1/4 full with a big name attached to it. As of now, I don’t recommend it nor a repeat for me, there are far better burger joints around with a lot better...

Our first time to GRB and we honestly weren't expecting anything amazing after reading all the mixed reviews.. more bad than good.. The first thing I have to say is I'm not sure how everyone in these reviews had dry burgers, both of ours were definitely not dry at all and the authentic flavor of the beef was so yummy! We both got the truffle burgers but we asked to substitute the goat cheese for regular sliced cheese. On that note, i do have to mention that the burger was a little bit on the salty side, i mainly think it was the bacon.. but definitely DO NOT remove the bacon completely! But... im not too sure if i would say it hits $35 burger standards... I personally think there are burgers for about $25 that top it.

We got the salt&pepper chicken wings and the onion rings to start: the chicken wings were nothing special, cooked well but nothing out of this world. The onion rings were DELICIOUS. We loved the unique light breading, my boyfriend always peels any breading off anything fried and he actually didnt with these! (He also isnt that big on onions but he actually enjoyed these)

The truffle fries were really good, they definitely looked fancy but I honestly think i prefer Cactus Club's truffle fries. But the truffle aioli, the honey jalapeno and the chipotle ketchup were all amazing! Love a good sauce.

We also tried the sweet potato fries, i believe thats when the honey jalapeno sauce came in the picture and DAMN is that one good. We asked for another... and another.. and one to take home with my leftovers 😋

In the end, I think our experience was a lot better than we initially thought it would be. Our server Joel was super attentive, he was really nice and made sure to get everything right and checked on us often. He was interested in our reviews as well, which is really nice knowing the servers appreciate the feedback. I know they just opened so of course, there will be things that need improvement but what matters is their ability to listen to the customers and make necessary changes.

The atmosphere kindof lacked that "Gordon Ramsay's restaurant" feel but you have to remember, its supposed to be a burger joint. Not to mention its not downtown vancouver or anything special, its at a casino.

Its a good burger, but I dont think this will be my #1 go-to if i want a burger. We didnt have a chance to try the milkshakes though, next time we go to the casino i will have to try one!

We actually didnt have a reservation because we saw online the first availability was January 4th! So we decided to go and check it out. The host said about 1.5 hours wait, so we gambled while we waited. They called that our table was ready after only about an hour. A lot of my coworkers were saying they went but were turned away without a reservation, and they mentioned it was 11am and the restaurant...

Alright, real talk... Going into this experience, seeing the bombing reviews, we were skeptical (like very much so).

Wait time to get in was about 30ish minutes, granted we didn't have a reso to get in. Once we went inside, the decor was nice mixed between casual burger joint and semi fancy with the low lights. Nice British bits in the decor, and Ramsy was there, but in picture form. Loved the photoshopped picture of him in Gastown... which made me laugh. They did have another entrance directly from the casino itself. Women's bathroom was very nice with the Rouge red theme. Men's was okay but blue. Our server Jade did a great job, even though it was busy.

Onion Rings : 3.5/5☆ • Great beer batter, nice and crispy! Was kinda oily though. The Chipotle ketchup was amazing! The portion was okay, just the right size for an appy. Lobster & Prawn Roll : 4/5☆ • They definitely didn't skimp out on the lobster pieces! Tasted like ocean. Was expecting it to be warm, but it was good as a cold sandwich. Side salad was very basic iceberg lettuce with light dressing. The Plate wasn't hot. Fish & Crisps Sandwich: 4/5☆ • I would have to say it was pretty good. Presentation okay... but missing sauces? It's interesting that the bun was upside down. Fish, it's self was okay. Not DRY. But I've had better. The beer batter was very crispy!!! Fries, not soggy or dry, but was pretty good. Less salt, which was good. It didn't come with any sauces, though.... I saved the sauce from my onion Rings just in case... which was a good foresight. Mango & Coconut Basil Shake (moded no basil) : 2/5☆ • Not that great, but also, it was moded, so maybe that's the case... Strawberry Shake : 5/5☆ • Not something you can go wrong with) Sticky Toffee Shake (desert) : 8/5☆ • The best shake I've had in a long time. Loved the toffee bits w/ the whipped cream and caramel drizzle♡

Overall, I can't say for all the other reviews within the last 24hrs of us being there for any of the burger burgers, and it's "dryness." However, from the items we did order, it was okay. Not terrible. Prices.... was expensive. But I would maybe go again. They did say that they will be adding more desert deserts instead of just the 2 shakes they had currently.

I know I put 4☆, but realistically, if there was half ☆'s on Google, it would be 3.5☆ Good, but not amazing.

*TIP for the restaurant: Might need to step up their game a bit, when they are so closely located...
