We went to Kooks cooks because it’s my husband’s birthday and he wished to have brunch with the family and his parents. We’ve been wanting to try here because of the good reviews. But we were disappointed from the time we stepped in when we asked for a table for 6 and looks like she wasn’t happy about that. Maybe because we have kids with us or maybe because my family are not asian? We really didn’t feel welcome! We even helped her set up the table because we felt that she didn’t like the fact that she has to move tables. The place is small and they don’t have tables for large parties and we understand that, but they can put tables together to make it happen for their customers if they want business. And if they really care? I guess?

Everytime she comes to our table she gives us a vibe that she doesn’t like us there. She never smiled and the way she handles our questions and requests it’s not just right. I work in a hotel restaurant and I know service. I can read her.

To be honest, the foods are good but not great. The selections and portions are great. It’s a fusion of Korean and western style brunch menu.

But me as a customer, I would appreciate great service over great foods. I will go back to a place where I feel valued and welcomed even the foods are not great than a place that foods are great but service are bad. People will remember the good experience over their food that’s why they go back. I didn’t even enjoy my food because of the way she was hosting us.

My in laws were not happy. We are good tippers, I wish she knew that! but we only tip good to the ones that deserves it. But she was still lucky, my mother in law still tipped her despite our disappointments. I sometimes add more if I really enjoyed the experience but not with that experience.

Will definitely not go back to this place again! Sorry but looks like they only welcome Asian people here as we noticed they were nice to other tables with Asian customers.

I just didn’t get the servers names especially our server coz looks like they were not happy with their tips. They didn’t even responded to us when we said thank you when we left. What a birthday experience for my husband!

I hope the owner of this place will do proper training of their servers if they want regular customers. So people will go back here. That will help out their business. Just a piece of advice. Don’t just look forward to the tips, tips will be big if you give good service. Make your employees understand that! Good Service first before tip! And you will see the difference in your tips. This is based on my experience in the...

I am very disappointed, I was really looking forward to having a good local breakfast place. Given the reviews I was hopeful That it would be a really good experience. This was however was one of the worst breakfast dining experiences I have had in my life. When we first arrived there was some awkwardness, as we had walked in behind someone else and the waitresses thought we were together, no big deal, we were sat a table around the corner with menus, we then decided to order coffee ( they have no decaf ), when the waitresses brought our coffees and disappeared around the corner we realized that while we had sugar on the table we had no cream or spoons. We could not see the waitress, so we pushed the button on the table that says 'for help', but it did not do anything, and no one came. I drink my coffee black, so I had started mine, and this was the worst coffeee I have ever had in my life, it was bitter and burnt, absolutely outrageous for the price! but my husband does not so we waited for at least five minutes until he could have his coffee. When the waitresses finally brought the cream it was in a little basket with the spoon that had sticky stuff all over the inside that was also on the spoon. Gross. I ordered the croissant breakfast sandwhich and it was ok. A store bought croissant with an unseasoned egg patty, slice of tomato and some avocado, and an unmelted slice of processed cheese. My husband's breakfast was absolutely terrible. The bacon was so hard it would shatter, it was like eating bacon bits. The toast was cold and hard, like it was toasted an hour ago an left out. The hashbrowns were hard and stale and overcooked. We didn't eat even half our plates before we were done, The best part of the meal being the single apple slice on each of our plates. We waited another 10-15 minutes for the bill (all the while pressing the help button which did nothing, until finally it worked and we heard a chime in the kitchen), there was only one other table at this time so it was not as if they were busy. In the end we paid nearly $40 for two sips of coffee, and 2 mediocre eggs, and a lesson that We will never be returning here. Too bad as We love to support small...

I used go there with my daughter often because she likes their waffle. Not sure why the service is always so bad when we go there. Maybe they prefer Caucasians customers because I always see the waitress being so nice, friendly and sociable with the Caucasian customers. Every time we go there, we never get offered with water, booster seat or kids cutlery.

Today’s service even got worse. We didn’t even get any water during our dinning period as usual. All the other tables got a bottle of water. The table was dirty so I had to wipe it myself.

When I tried to order, the waitress got impatient and frustrated when I asked for no white wine in the pasta. She insisted that it can’t be served without the white wine. First she said that “the pasta won’t taste the same without the white wine.”. I told her that I’m pregnant so I don’t want any alcohol in my food. Then she changed into “you won’t taste the white wine because it will be evaporated.”. She just contradicted herself. Her responses just didn’t make any sense!!

I had to ask for kids cutlery again because they expected a 5 year old to eat with adult size fork and knife. When the food is here, the pasta got no toast and the waffle got no whipping cream. Some of the fresh fruits are a bit rotten already (the grapes and strawberries). I had to called the waitress over and asked them about our order. She apologized and gave an extra small piece of toast. No one asked how we were doing until one younger waitress came to ask the table next to us and saw me looking at her. Then she came over and asked if we are doing ok.

The entire experience was awful again! I still gave them 13% tips instead of 15% or 20% tips at the end. I’m not sure how they get such high reviews on Google reviews! I don’t think I want to go back there again. I will spend my money at somewhere who appreciates my business. I will also tell my friends not to come here since they only appreciate certain races to go to their restaurants. Definitely not children and family friendly with my experiences!!!

Another update: I went there around 1pm. I started having very severe diarrheas and stomach pain around 6pm. Will never go back...

Sadly I am here to change my review from 5 stars to 2 stars. If there is new management here then they have a lot of room for improvement. Had breakfast here this morning with my partner, was impressed to see the look of the restaurant has improved a lot but the food was a disaster. My omelette was missing cheese (1 of the 3 ingredients that comes inside) and tasted funny. Admittedly, I didn't tell them about the taste because I hate confrontation 😅 but it was awful and made it nearly inedible. We were not checked in on until the end where they offered $2 off for the missing cheese, despite my food being half uneaten. After spending $50 on dining out, I will need to grab food somewhere else. Disappointed and hoping I'll have reason in the future to change my review back to 5 stars. This is my previous review(photo is from this review): I live nearby so I've been many times now. The food is simple but delicious. The garlic snowing pizza is absolutely divine, a must try for sure. Pictured is the BLT which I had today and was fresh and tasty. The wait staff can be hit and miss but never terrible, plus they give you a buzzer button to call if you need something. The restaurant itself is nothing to write home about but the reliably good tasting food is 5 star worthy.

I'm always on the lookout for new places to eat, especially in my neighborhood. Kook's Cooks is a family-owned restaurant that serves traditional Canadian brunch with a touch of Korean influence. The place is always cozy and inviting, with a friendly staff and a casual diner atmosphere. The menu was diverse and appealing, featuring dishes like bulgogi beef benedict, kimchi burrito, garlic snowing pizza, and seafood pasta. I usually order the bulgogi beef benedict with excellent potato hash. The beef is always tender and flavorful, the eggs are perfectly poached, and the hollandaise sauce is thick, creamy, and a little tangy. The potato hash is crispy and seasoned well. It was a satisfying and hearty meal that hit the spot. I would recommend you order an extra side of Hollandaise sauce. Everyone I take there enjoys the experience. It is a pleasant surprise to find such a quality hidden gem brunch/lunch spot in my area. The food is fresh and tasty, the service was warm and attentive, and the prices were reasonable. I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a good brunch spot in Coquitlam, Port Moody, or the East side of Burnaby.
