So here we are, going to the Berry Barn with expectations based on decent previous experience. We get there on a week day, it’s pretty laid back. No strollers allowed so I had to take the car seat with my kid in it to go inside. when we enter the place, there is no one at the front so walk in a little further and that’s when a lady with no smile or nothing orders us to go back to the front like we did a crime. Bold guy comes with less of a smile, makes us walk all the way to the front again just to grab menus. The genius of this guy. Then he asks, how many people, and after he asks are you eating desserts or food. Like I’m supposed to make up my mind while standing there. We say we gonna sit then decide like every other restaurant on planet earth. Again, the genius and the customer service is out of the ordinary here ladies and gentlemen. This rude guy walks us to the table, drops the menu. Anyway. Vibes is pretty tense in my opinion, we don’t want you here type vibe. We order the food. Food comes. Some salads and drinks and what not. Eat some salad, and BAM! There is a walnut shells in the salad. Bit right into it long sharp walnut shell. Again, I didn’t crack this walnut myself from a grocery store. This is a salad with walnut and everything else. You shouldn’t have hard sharp stuff in your food. The food safety authority will tell you that. It’s also common sense but not for the bold guy.
We call our server. She comes checks in. Goes to the kitchen and tells them. Comes back says can I take the shell to the kitchen. Takes it. We thought that’s what she’s doing. This “server” throws it away. Comes back and says it was just a walnut it’s fine with a straight face. Call your manager. She calls him. It’s the bold guy. He says what’s the deal, we tell him, he leaves and comes back. Says it’s a walnut. At this point these guys are just gaslighting our whole table. We say bring it and let’s see if it’s a walnut or a shell. He goes comes back, it’s gone, it’s in the garbage. Doesn’t matter buddy go dig out. He goes come back apologizing saying yes it was a shell and says it’s not their fault. he removed the salad from the bill like it was a great favour he was doing. Rude, terrible service, food is mediocre. Idk how they operate tbh.
Will never go here again. Used to be mediocre now it’s garbage.
Do not bother responding with the generic follow up guys....
Read moreJust finished having breakfast here this morning and it was the worst experience ever.
Three of us were meeting for breakfast, as we do every Saturday, but this time we decided to make the trip out to the Berry Barn. I got there first, and with the other two expected by 9:30 I went in at 9:25 to get seated and started on a coffee. It was a couple of minutes before I was seated so I got a table for three and was seated.
The most unpleasant short woman who should take a lesson in customer service then stormed back to my table to tell me that they don’t allow a table to be seated unless all of the people eating are here. She asked me where the other two were and I said they would be there shortly. She then said next time I had to wait for everyone before getting a table. I told her there likely wouldn’t be a next time after this. She asked why and I told her that generally over the years we have enjoyed coming out here for special occasions, however after this we would probably go somewhere else.
The waiter then came over to the table demanding to know where the other two people were and how long they would be. I told him we had separate vehicles but they were on their way and should be there shortly. He was staring me down and told me that I shouldn’t be sitting there unless everyone was with me. I told him that I would not be calling them to see where they were because that is insane. That was when my sister and brother in law arrived and sat down. Maybe 3 whole minutes had elapsed by the time I was seated.
I filled them in on the grief I was getting since I arrived, and the waiter came back and to my brother in law said that there was one time when they were really busy that someone came in took a larger table because they were expecting someone, then left without ordering anything after an hour.
Now we were there this morning at 9:30. Although the patio was full, the solarium had tables available and the restaurant was empty when we arrived and when we left. I also did not notice any signage that indicated all members of a party had to be present before they would assign you a table.
I believe in supporting local but dealing with this kind of insanity on the morning of the start of a long weekend is not what I want to support.
Will not be supporting Berry Barn...
Read moreHave had more than one bad experience at the Berry Barn in recent years. The food for starters is not up to par. The burgers are greasy and sloppy and made me and my partner fairly unwell. The fries taste fairly ok but that’s about it. The Ciabatta sandwiches are soggy and disgusting and were inedible. Furthermore many hygiene policies are breached in terms of their baking and how it’s stored. I’ve witnessed several flies roaming the baking cabinet walking all over the Canolis which made me sick to my stomach. They then also have the nerve to charge $4 plus tax for fly infested food. The only thing worse than the food is the complete disregard for customer needs or respect for that matter. The staff are rude, aggressive and see customers as nothing more than a money source. They are unhelpful and are not willing to enhance the “berry barn” experience. In addition to this, Wi-Fi is not available unlike it is in 90% of modern day restaurants in the world which in itself is frustrating for any youth. For some reason they also think it’s appropriate to charge $0.75 + tax for a cup of mayonnaise which shocked me. The ketchup is of course a cheap brand and the effort just isn’t there. This leads to an ultimately disappointing experience. The Staff need a real lesson on customer service and satisfaction as it’s clear they want you to come and go as soon as possible to get the next lot of victims in. Overall, the Saskatoon Betty Barn is a disappointment and it’s reputation has gone downhill in the recent years. The owner is a selfish woman who I saw taking up a table of 6 on her own last year whilst a queue was lined outside the door. The staff ignore customer needs and fail to provide simple services, the food is below fast food standard yet it’s 5 times the price. Many hygiene protocols have been breached and is worth reporting. We will not be back. To the owner:please don’t reply with another phone response unless it is genuine, I’ve seen dozens of your fake and robotic replies to other unhappy customers. I’m not looking for...
