While on our way from Toronto to Gravenhurst (weekend getaway at a cottage ) we stopped by at Thong Thai. The restaurant is literally on the highway before the exit to Gravenhurst town, cannot be missed, and one should definitely not miss it after the amazing experience we had. The food was simply outstanding. We were a party of 7 and ordered quite a few dishes, and everything tasted amazing. Their Thai red and green curries were flavourful, the Pad Thai was perfectly balanced and my favorite was the Basil Fried rice. We even indulged in their desserts, mango ice cream and mango rice cakes, and were the perfect way to end our experience. The kitchen staff clearly took pride in their cooking, and it showed in every dish they serve.

What I found particularly special about this restaurant was the role that the young servers (local kids) played in creating a welcoming and friendly atmosphere. Their enthusiasm and joy were infectious, and they went out of their way to make sure that all customers were comfortable and happy.

Overall, I had a wonderful experience at this Thai restaurant, and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for authentic Thai food served by the warmest and most welcoming...

This spot is a bit tricky to find—it’s located inside a motel with a dated, small-town setup, but surprisingly spacious inside. Service was quick, and overall, the experience wasn’t bad, especially for a Thai place in Muskoka.

I tried the Shrimp Pad Thai, which had a generous portion and nice flavor in the noodles. However, the noodles were a bit too sticky and broken. The shrimp were disappointing—overcooked, rubbery, and had an off-putting taste and smell. I’d skip the shrimp next time.

The Crispy Mango Chicken was recommended by the lady running the place. While it’s not traditional Thai, she described it as a popular Thai-Western fusion dish. Unfortunately, it didn’t live up to the hype. The chicken wasn’t crispy—more chewy, with a gummy batter—and the sauce was overly sweet with random mango slices. The rice served with it was over-steamed and bland.

The surprise highlight was the sticky rice—great texture with a slightly nutty flavor. It was a bit scorched on the bottom, but I actually enjoyed that.

Recommendation: Stick to the more authentic dishes. The Pad Thai is worth ordering (just skip the shrimp), and definitely try the...

My husband and I have eaten at Thong Thai on a couple of occasions. Both visits were lovely.

Located on highway 11 (North bound) just before the Gravenhurst exit. It's attached to a small motel.

Although the decor is to be desired and it tends to feel dark in the eat-in area, the food makes up for these distractions.

We have tried several dishes and my favourites thus far are the curries. Don't let your eyes trick you, the dishes are quite large, and we have made the mistake both visits ordering FAR too many dishes; our eyes were certainly bigger than our bellies! The way that they prepare their chicken and steak is MUCH different than other Thai resturants that we've visited. They deep fry it, similar to Chinese food.

Our waiter was a pleasant young man who was attentive to our needs.

They have a special, if you pick up your order and pay cash they offer a 10% discount.

I don't feel like this is a wheelchair friendly resturant as there was a step to go up into the bathroom, however, I may have missed seeing a wheelchair friendly bathroom...

This is a child friendly establishment.

I recommend Thong...

We stopped by in this Thai family run restaurant, while on our way to Arrowhead Provincial Park. As a Thai food lover and a fellow South East Asian, I knew I had to stop by here and I knew I was in good hands when I noticed that this place was owned by a Thai family. I went with the Shrimp Green Curry option which was served in a generous portion accompany a plate of rice, although not in a proportionate amount. The Shrimp Green Curry came with generous amounts of shrimp and other fresh vegetables. At the same time, it was cooked spicy as per my request and packed with flavours. My companions ordered other dishes such as Fried Rice and Pad Thai, both of which were delicious with strong wok hei. My only concern is the pricing of the dish which seemed to be a little steep. Nevertheless, with the warm hospitality received from the family running this, along with the delicious fresh food served here, I feel like this will be my default pit stop for all my trips north from the GTA towards the Muskoka Region.
