I love to support local businesses, but unfortunately, this may just be one of those places that will be its own ticking time bomb 💣. While the items are nothing to write home about, menu items were delightfully tasteful, although our butter tarts did not have a smooth texture, and I have had much better elsewhere. The ticking time bomb of sorts will be their prices. It's extremely high for what you get. It's unfortunate. Why would I purchase half of a day-old apple pie for $12? Is the whole pie actually $24? Insane. I could go to the country market and get one that tastes the same for $1.99 day olds that they've frozen (yes I've had both) no I did not purchase but again this place just price gouges. Sorry for the negative review, but unfortunately, your prices are out of touch with the value of goods received.
Thank you for the response to my review, and I did not leave this to leave a bad taste for anyone. Yes, I understand economics, but how do you pass the price of your hydro and bulk goods off to every single customer? (You pass it in moderation) !It does not cost nearly $22 to bake a single pie. I understand the differences between filling and fresh ingredients as well. I was not knocking your baked goods (although honestly, I've had better butter tarts) yes your pies are tastefully "GREAT," I will say that. But not $22 great. It truly sucks that we, as consumers, are getting priced into a processed food market. I earn over 6 figures and do very well for myself, but I still feel it in the end, just like everyone else, as the end consumer. The quality of most of your goods was not the issue. The issue was value for money, I understand the concept of "YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR" just simply saying your establishment has priced itself out of the regular market. While I'm sure you have your loyal repeat customers, unfortunately, I can bet you have more...
Read moreHONESTLY? $15 for (let's be honest) pretty average tasting butter tarts. Yet another place that likes to upcharge the customers for the experience of supporting local. It's so tiny inside. It's basically one table at the front and some freezers next to it. For those visiting it from out of town, it's not worth the drive. There is a playground out front for the kids to play, but it's right next to their run-off water pond that has no fencing around it. So the kids spend the entire time trying to play in their dirty pond, while the parents try to deal with their screaming child because they can't play in such an inviting and dirty pond out front. Not to mention the dangerous slope that will send your kid right down into the dirty water. I drove an hour to this place, to pay almost $25 for 6 butter tarts and 2 fritters. Not to mention the gas and time it took me to get there, only to be in and out of the place in 3 minutes and to fight my kid outside the entire time from playing or even falling...
Read moreWe decided to have these buttertarts at our wedding instead of a cake, as we are both big buttertart fans. They were a HUGE hit! Probably one of the things we received the most compliments about from guests. Luckily we ordered extra tarts, since some guests ended up having two or three. The Kawartha Buttertart Factory was very helpful and responsive during the planning process, and answered all of our questions about transport, storage, and serving of the tarts in a timely manner. We live locally but the wedding was in Newmarket so they couldn't deliver, but they agreed to meet us in Peterborough when we were on our way to Newmarket so we didn't have to make an extra trip up to Warsaw. The buttertarts were as fresh as could be (still warm when they met us) and neatly packaged into pizza boxes for transportation. Our only complaint is the drive was pure torture since the whole car smelled like buttertarts! Oh, and we wish we had more...
