I seriously make a point of giving restaurants the benefit of the doubt and I love supporting local, but this place was seriously so unacceptable. I am aware that its not a super high end place but still- both servers were dressed beyond scantily clad- one of them had her entire gut hanging out. I am all for body positivity, but if you're out and paying for food/drink, the vast majority of people don't want to see that. Was really gross. Same server that has her gut hanging out comes over with our pitcher of beer, which has some gross stuff on the inside of it and gunk on the pouring cut out. Already wasn't drinking out of that- then, brings two glasses over and is carrying them pressed up against her between her arm and her body, one of the glasses on her breast, the other virtually in her armpit. I looked in astonishment to my friend, feeling as though there was no way I could be even more baffled, until I saw the glasses, which both had gross film over them and were just plain gross and unclean. We left immediately after and didn't touch a thing. We were going to eat there too as I heard the pizza was good, and it might be, but after seeing that, no chance I'm eating there. Way too many signs of a serious lack of sanitation and regard for the...
Read moreTypical neighborhood pub and eatery although the wood fired pizza is wonderful. Beer taps are mediocre as the main offering is Sleeman's Honey Brown and "Uncle Glen's" (Albert Genuine Draft - genuine slough water more like). However, the one saving grace about the taps is that they also have Guinness and they DO know how to do a proper pour.
The menu is small but as mentioned before, the pizza is great. Negative is that they (the pizzas) are on the smallish side and pricey. Bank on at least two pies for three folk and that's if you're in snacking mode only. They do burgers as well and those are tasty too.
The other odd thing about this place is that they've PACKED the bar with tables and chairs so that it's difficult to negotiate your way to a place to sit down (there are booths along part of the perimeter though). I've never been in here in that the bar is THAT full so it almost feels as if Uncle Glen got a "deal" on extra furniture but has no place to store them.
I'd still recommend this location for a "quick couple of pints after...
Read moreI want Uncle Glens to be great, and it has a lot of potential as it’s a great location, but sadly it misses the mark for me in a few ways. Food and drinks aren’t cheap enough for it to be as dive-y as it looks. We’ve found the pizza is sometimes really good! and sometimes it is not. Theyre not huge so the value isn’t great. They don’t have a full kitchen so I’m sure they’re limited in what they can do. I wish that they did so that they could put out a few solid, quality dishes. I’d go back for that. I appreciate their little patio and thought it was great they added that to enjoy the summer evenings. I wish it would either really lean into a cheap beer, sports bar feel Or do a bit of an upheaval and renovation to make it a nice neighbourhood haunt and destination. I prefer the latter option, but there’s a time and a place for a good value cheap but tasty meal. My husband and I have never had any issues with the owner but some of his replies on here are...
