This is one of our must stops on our frequent trips to the Bonavista Peninsula. If you visit the nearby puffin colony or the sealers museum, be sure to save time to visit Nanny. Nanny's consistently dishes up the best feed of fish-and-brewis that I've ever had. It's #1 on my list, nudging out that at Mifflin's Tea Room in Bonavista and comfortably outpacing that at Bidgood's Grocery Mug Up Café in the Gould's, although those last two are very good. Nanny's gives a noble serving, the onions are actually visible as small chunks, the scrunchions are perfectly done and not rock hard as too many places have, the fish is very nicely watered, and Nanny includes a small dollop of molasses on the side. OK, so much for fish and brewis. The fish cakes are beautifully done, nice sized, golden and not too salt. Everything else on the menu is very good, too, and they have a liquor licence.

Friendly, helpful, and fantastic food! We called ahead for reservations which we didn't really need and asked about the Jiggs Dinner. This was a Thursday and we were told that unfortunately this Newfoundland speciality is only available on Sundays. When my wife said we were visiting from the Mainland and she had never had one before Geraldine asked if we could eat a 1/2 hour later as the JIggs Dinner takes hours to prepare. We said no problem and she made us a fantastic dinner. I wish there was more than 5 stars! I forgot to mention that this is a Not For Profit restaurant to make money for local initiatives!

I would rate this 10 out of 5 if I could. I called to make a reservation and asked about Jiggs dinner since I'd never had one and would soon be leaving Newfoundland for home. She said it was only served on Sundays, but if we could come at 6:30 instead of 6, she would have time to make one for us (it takes about 4 hours). When we arrived we were treated to an incredible meal! We are so thankful to Geraldine for doing this for us! So amazing. And it was only $18 a plate! Please go enjoy a meal here. It is a nonprofit community restaurant.

Walked into an empty ‘restaurant’ I’m a local on the island in St. John’s, my girlfriend who is brown experienced first hand racism. She cried on the walk back to the car, all she wanted was a home cooked meal vibe. Extremely disappointed in this community as well as the owners for condoning this behaviour. She didn’t even understand why we couldn’t eat there and asked for it to go and they said it depended on what we ordered? They have 8 things on the menu and all of them I could make in 10 minutes. I believe this is a racist establishment. Would not recommend especially with all the other fine restaurants that are far more welcoming near by. Also, I’m unsure why they were so blatant, truly frustrating as someone just trying to show someone the place I call home. (ps i’m white which shouldn’t even matter in today’s age but...
