Recent edit: we were not charged for our stay and originally I thought this was an act of good faith for our stay and have said repeatedly we are willing to pay for the accomadations utilized when they properly reflect our visit. As you can see, this is not an ethical establishment. The manager has sent me text messages late at night and has harassed me over email. We are nonsmokers who had legitimate concerns about the fire alarm, and are now being threatened an invalid $500.00 charge. Also, readers please note the owner's reply is public defamation as well. I have been in contact with BBB and local law enforcement. Be safe, and do not stay here.
I used to think Fortunes Landing in Enderby was a hidden gem until a stay over the winter. I had let it be as a one-off incident… including cockroaches and fire hazards, but I recently talked to the manager and he called me a liar with no proof. I do not want anyone else feeling unsafe like we did!
My family stayed for 1 night at Fortune’s Landing over the winter. To say it was the worst night of our trip is an understatement.
At first we get to our hotel room which is supposed to have two queen beds. It has a queen bed and a double bed but that’s not a big deal. Two minutes later we find a dead cockroach under our bed. Then we find even more in the room. While throwing out the dead bugs, I walked outside the hotel room to see several more dead roaches around the stair case and outside our room within 5 feet of the door. Very concerning generally, but especially given there’s a kitchen door and pub 15-20 feet away.
When we attempted to use the microwave, the fire alarm started beeping sporadically. When the microwave was off, there would be no beeps. Understanding this is an electrical malfunction, we ate dinner cold. In the morning, we attempted this one more time and the fire alarm kept blaring without turning off. We evacuated the suite and left it blaring and notified front desk staff, as we were ready to check out.
The most frustrating and alarming part of our experiencing is that there was no one at the business who could address our concerns professionally. In fact, the only number we were given to contact a manager/owner was for the front desk and no one returned my emails or phone calls. A malfunctioning smoke detector due to circuitry issues is a major concern, especially along with a cockroach infestation.
When I emailed the manager, no one got back to me until this week (8 months later) and I have been called a liar with a bad conscience and said I have proof, my photos and videos beg to differ. I just think other people should be aware of the kind of business...
Read moreFirst, the positives: The lady who checked us in was fantastic, very kind, helpful, and overall pleasant. Our rooms were clean, quite, and the beds were comfortable. My girlfriend and her kids were missing pillows and blankets, however that was quickly remedeed by the motel staff. Now, the unFortunate... We booked this motel as we were 2 families traveling together, in total 3 adults and 4 children, aged 3 and 5. The kids were extstatic that we had a pool! My girlfriend, whom we were traveling with, called in advance to make sure the pool was working. Otherwise, we would have book led somewhere else. The answer she was given was, "Yes, it should be." Well, we should have known by that backwards answer. We arrived, and the pool was locked, so we checked with the front desk. I will say that if an apology was offered or even a legitimate explanation (we learned the next morning the pump had been replaced and they knew it would take a few days until it would be operational), I wouldn't be writing this review. What transpired after we inquired about the pool is the reason I am writing. We talked to an older gentleman, presumably the head of the establishment. My girlfriend acknowledged that she called beforehand, and the reason we stayed here was for the pool for the kids. Before she could even finish her sentence, the man behind the desk was waving a piece of paper in her face. And when I say in her face, I mean she was almost hit with it. "I just got this today, see, I just got it from the inspector today." When she expressed her disappointment, he proceeded to answer a phone call in front of her and ignored us. I later learned that when my fiancée went to talk to him about a different issue (our toilet was on the fritz), he did the same thing. This gentleman is the reason we will not ever book at Fortunes laning again. He was rude, unapologetic, and had zero customer service. Add to the fact that the grounds were filthy (a toilet in the walk way filled with garbage, glass bulbs at the foot of the stairs, and garbage strewn throought the parking lot and property), avoid. It would be great for an overnight for a single person who doesn't care that what is promised isn't there and they want a clean bed....
Read moreTo spare you reading through this review, if you have to eat here, order pub food or something deep fried. Absolutely terrible food and service. Came here for a 30 year high school reunion, they were notified that 30-40 people were coming and put on 0 extra staff. I ordered the lamb chops (huge mistake) medium rare and was served 4 well done, tough lamb chops. I informed the server that my lamb was overdone and she said "do you want more?" I said, of course, this is a $35 dinner. She came back out with 3 new lamb chops (my original plate came with 4, but whatever). Cut into it, well done. At this point I wasn't going to ask them to fire it a 3rd time so I just ate them. Vegetables were steamed with zero seasoning, 2 scoops of mashed potatoes and a packaged gravy. I suspect that the chops were pre-cooked and reheated because they were incredibly tough and I probably had zero chance of ever getting them medium rare. When I complained they offered me a 10% discount. Another woman at my table ordered a New York steak and no word of a lie, it was about 1/4 inch thick...I don't even know what cut of meat it was. She asked the server "this is a New York steak" and got the same reply "you want a new one?". It was so bizarre that they think that's a steak. My parents live in this town and were telling me that there's new ownership and they have a chef...there is no chef working there. They need to seriously look at the menu they inherited and stick to what they know...
