M&J's Family Restaurant — Restaurant in Fort Erie

Disgusting ethics, service & food. Ordered 2 of their advertised Ribeye steak and 3 egg breakfast meals with coffee. We told the man we'd like our steaks "medium". He appeared confused so we repeated we'd like our steaks "Medium". This is a normal request when ordering steaks to let them know how you want it cooked. One was with scrambled eggs the other over easy. We had to pay in advance for our meals which came to $40.00. He did not provide us with a receipt so all we have is our debit transaction as proof to our purchase. There are no washrooms in the restaurant so we had to use the hand sanitizer. When the man brought us our meals we noticed that we did not get the advertised Ribeye steak. They served us cheap lunch meat. It was not even cooked as we had requested. We mentioned to him that we expecting the advertised Ribeye steaks and he simply said "this is how we serve Ribeye steak" and he walked away from us. The scrambled eggs were not cooked / raw inside, the meat was disgusting with no flavour, cold and definitely not Ribeye nor fresh meat. The over easy eggs were over cooked with no egg yolks to dip toast into. When the man came back to our table we told him that this was not what we had ordered and were clearly mislead that we were getting Ribeye steak versus the nasty sliced lunch meat that was definitely not Ribeye steak. We pointed out how the meals weren't even cooked properly. We told him that he could have told us they don't serve Ribeye steak as he advertised when we ordered before taking our money instead of trying to pass off old lunch meat as Ribeye steak. We asked for a refund and he refused. He simply said "next time it might be better " and he walked away from us with our plates and threw our food in the garbage. We sat waiting for 15 mins to see if he'd refund us and he stayed hiding in the kitchen. The man and the woman who was cooking clearly have no ethics and do not provide the food that they advertise. This business should be shut down for their fraud. They should have done the right thing and reimbursed us our $40 instead of just walking away with the food we paid for and throwing it away in the garbage without reimbursing us our money for the garbage they tried served us. Clearly they knew their food was garbage since he threw it in the garbage on us. They are thieves. Definitely a restaurant to avoid so you don't get ripped off like we were! Took our money and failed to provide us with the food we paid upfront for. He didn't even bother to try to correct the situation nor did he bother to apologize to us. Absolutely disgusting...

Service: Quick and friendly service, was fast bringing out food and beverages, multiple checks for coffee or drink refills. 4.5 stars

Atmosphere: Good atmosphere lots of all decide and entertainment on television. Good crowd. However, while there is a ramp into the building from multiple entrances. There is a lack of wheelchair accessibility as it is very tight on the inside of the building. 4 stars

Food: Water is cold, but has no ice to maintain cool temperatures. Food ordered; poutine, portion size was massive, amazing gravy and a perfect temperature upon delivery to the table. Has options for soft drinks, water, coffee, tea, and even an assortment of alcoholic beverages including beer and wine. 5 stars

Cleanliness: Restaurant is clean and well kept tables are cleared in a timely manor. 5 stars

Value: Massive portion sizes for price 4.5 stars

I used to eat here daily. Not anymore!

The Italian sausage is not a real Italian sausage it's some sort of gross patty. I ordered it to go expecting typical Italian sausage and was not happy at all. I'd already gotten home. I called to complain. The man offered me a refund and I said yes, that's great but I still have no dinner and I have to come all the way back to get my money. He followed up with ok I give you chicken dinner. Perfect

I go to get my refund and chicken dinner. He yells at me, saying no I didn't say that you get one or the other I'm not losing money. I said I lost money, food, and time. All He cared about was his $16. He eventually gave me both after some back and forth but then banned me from coming back! All because of his miscommunication.

His lack of ability to remain calm and professional was shocking. He unnecessarily escalated a situation and wouldn't stop yelling.
