āļøāļøāļøāļø St. James Gate: A Promising Gem in Fredericton
After eyeing St. James Gate for some timeāitās conveniently close to homeāI finally had the chance to visit, and it might just be my new favorite restaurant in Fredericton! Since moving here from Toronto, Iāve been on the hunt for a restaurant that offers something fresh and different, and St. James Gate delivers on uniqueness. Their menu stood out to me right away, offering dishes you donāt often find in the area.
For my first visit, I chose the Blackened Cod with risotto, and it did not disappoint. The cod was perfectly seasoned and bursting with flavor, and the risotto was creamy and delicious. The dish also came with carrots and broccoli, which, while overcooked to the point of being almost mushy, were saved by a generous amount of butter that made them surprisingly enjoyable. Despite the vegetable hiccup, Iād absolutely order this dish again.
Iām already planning my next visit and canāt wait to try more of their menu! The Bison Burger, Tuna Poke Bowl, Fish Tacos, and Seafood Risotto are all calling my name. Itās exciting to find a place in Fredericton that offers a fresh and eclectic menu, and Iām looking forward to working my way through it.

Upon arrival, the building exuded an aesthetic appeal, and the restaurant interior mirrored this charm. While the service was somewhat slow, it was of exceptional quality.
However, the experience took a turn for the negative, which is the reason for our dissatisfaction. The food and drinks were subpar. The drinks contained incorrect ingredients, and the food ordered was unsatisfactory. The seafood was undercooked , while the spinach dip was tasty but served in an excessively small portion, barely 1/8ā thick, resembling a smear for $15. My Bisson burger was inedible, despite its high price of $27, which I typically appreciate. This was a table of 10 and at least 7 main courses were not eatable.
It is imperative that the restaurantās culinary staff undergo training to enhance their skills. While the restaurantās overall ambiance and service were commendable, the subpar food and drinks were unacceptable. The restaurant did offer partial meal restorations, but a drive-thru stop on the way home was necessary to compensate for the...
