First time back in years. I grew up in GR and come back to visit my mom frequently. Like many people I avoided the Ridge due to poor quality in the past but news of the new owner/chef was all over Facebook. I heard it was fantastic so we stopped in today. Our ultimate pub test is just burgers...a pub has to have a good burger! Being a vegetarian I sometimes get overlooked in that area and crave a juicy, tasty burger. This one was a homemade black bean patty that was super fresh! Slight chili spice to it which was fine for me, but could be too spicy for others if prefer a more straight up flavour. But man, it was so tasty. So crispy on edges and the toppings were great too. Lightly seasoned fries were addictively good. My Guy had the BC Burger and said it was "fresh"...said could actually taste the meat lol. He said it was the best burger had had in awhile.
Inside of the pub looked great too; nice and clean. The patio looked summer ready and I can't wait for our next visit to have a tasty drink out there.
Service was friendly and fast. Being a Customer Service Manager for the past 20 years I often look for little 'extras' that heighten the experience and we didn't get those. Little things like introducing yourself, asking us if we're from the area or yelling out a thank you for stopping by as we leave do make a difference and leave an impression. It's a teeny tiny point on an otherwise fantastic lunch. Our service was good.
I'm really excited GR has a neighborhood pub again that they can be proud to bring visitors to. This town is in my bones and my heart and I only want to...
Β Β Β Read moreWent there two weeks ago after visiting Myra Falls, and don't think we'll make the trip up again to visit this restaurant.
We arrived at 3pm (this is important). Waited a while to be seated, and the place was semi-busy; one large table and two small groups. Finally we were led to table where we found out the larger table had been there for quite some time, but the waitress was continuously retuning to confirm orders or make substitutions for items they had, then didn't have, then miraculously did.
The waitress came back, after we had to ask for menus, and by the time she returned we already decided what we wanted to eat and drink, but she would not take our food requests.
Then after 30min the waitress sets another small group and tells my small group of three that their kitchen is closing at 4pm, and she cannot take our order. The time was 3:40, so our drinks we ordered were "covered" but we had to go. This is hours before they are "actually" closed.
I'm not sure if this was her solution to try and make the kitchen staff less swamped, or if she was just frazzled, so we left. The large group, far as we saw, never got their food while we waited. For putting in the effort and trying to support a local and secluded restaurant, we left hungry and disappointed.
If there are staffing issues, long wait times, or food shortages, please be forthcoming about it. Hope there are some improvements, but after stopping at the gas station to get a snack, as we were starving, the attendant there said it was normal,...

Was there in late September 2021. Got there just in time just when it opened for lunch and minutes before a BMW motorcycle gang showed up to compete for the server's attention (not really a gang, they were four retirement aged riders - I envy them).
The burger was perfectly ordinary but still good. My wife's club sandwich was perfectly ordinary but still good. The beer we had was perfectly ordinary but still good. All was served reasonably quickly.
It's the location/site. Unbelievable. Set on the side of a ridge above the town. The inside of the restaurant is beautiful. The outside deck is gorgeous. The views are phenomenal. If this place was anywhere near any kind of mainstream tourist destination, it would be hard-pressed to handle the huge crowds it would attract.
We had no expectations of Gold River or the Ridge Roadhouse before we got there. Would have been happy to get a meal we didn't choke on.
For that reason, we loved this place. Good food and outstanding...
