The mushroom toast looked fabulous, but it was honestly way too oily for me—the bread was completely soaked and the mushrooms were coated in oil. The first couple of bites were nice, with the crisp bread, grated cheese, and the rich, earthy flavor of wild mushrooms, but after that it became too heavy to finish. The Philly cheesesteak was very flavorful, and the meat was tender and easy to bite through. Still, it was also on the slightly oily side—a tasty comfort food, but quite rich. The fries were also just a little bit too salty. My favorite dish was definitely the Caesar salad. It had a great variety of fresh vegetables, and the croutons tasted like they were made in house —super crispy and falls apart right when you bit into it, the texture I haven’t found elsewhere. The salad as a whole was incredibly well-balanced: refreshing greens paired perfectly with the creamy Caesar dressing, making it flavorful but not overwhelming. Truly delicious! I also tried the heirloom tomatoes salad from the daily specials. The tomatoes themselves were excellent and fresh, simply prepared without overcomplicating them. However, I did feel the price was a bit on the high end, and server didn’t mention, which I think the restaurant should make clearer when ordering. The restaurant’s ambiance is beautiful, with an elegant British-inspired touch. If you’re in the area, this is definitely a refined spot worth considering.

We opted for a few items on their small plates to get a taste of different items. It was decent enough; nothing too out of the ordinary. The chicken bites were a bit too crunchy, it seemed overly fried. We had reservations and ended up arriving a bit earlier than anticipated. We were told our table wouldn’t be ready until our actual reservation time so we had to sit at the bar and wait. Mind you, there were 3 empty tables upon our arrival. Between the time of our early arrival and being seated at the bar for about 10 minutes, said 3 empty tables remained unoccupied. Essentially, we could have been seated at our proper table at the time of our arrival and did not have to sit at the bar. It was not the level of hospitality we were expecting and were sorely disappointed at the attitude received from the hostess who was outwardly annoyed of our early arrival. She didn’t try to accommodate, clearly seeing tables were not in use. While seated at the bar, we saw 50% of the restaurant clear out, so all standard seating was now available. We were left sitting at the bar and just ordered our food there. We weren’t offered to move to standard seating. Not really attended to as new patrons to this establishment. Not the ideal evening we had wanted. We would have returned if service was better; but with that kind of experience and lack of hospitality, wouldn’t recommend and wouldn’t return.

I have been here about five times now over the last two months and can honestly say this is my favourite spot to eat. The ambiance and vibe is like going over to your grandmothers where there is a warmth with all the oddities from her younger days surrounding you, where the forks and knives never match but that’s part of the charm. You’re greeted by a very friendly staff who will in my time, go above and beyond to answer questions or figure out any questions about the menu. Most of my visits have been during brunch. The quality is excellent. The classic breakfast is a great value with a great mix of variety on the plate and some of the best bacon. The French toast, with preserved peach and bacon is a personal favourite. But its the creativity of adding specials to the menu like the lemon meringue blueberry ricotta oat pancakes that keep you excited. 6/5 stars if I could ⭐️ The only outlier in all my trips has been the 19-18$ French onion soup for special. I order the soup without knowing the price as a starter (my mistake more than anything) I love French onion, and soup is usually a low cost option for a starter to go with our meal. The taste and quality was great as always, however the portion and price did not match in my opinion for what was provided.

I went there with my wife and son.

Pros Atmosphere was nice and open. Hostess and waitress were polite and friendly. My son had the steak frites, and both my wife and I sampled and it was good quality taste and had good texture. My wife had the rice pudding and it was warm and tasty. It was a little pricy coming around $12-14.

Cons

Food took 30-40 minutes from ordering until the time it was served. Not sure what the holdup was but none of the dishes are that time consuming to prepare. Was there a delay to warm the grill?

My wife ordered the sole. The flavor was good, BUT this was one of the greasiest fish entrees I have ever tasted. It was barely warm when it arrived. The sole was not seared if that was the intent of adding that amount of oil. Definitely not a do over coming in at $48.

I ordered the hache (seasoned burger without bun). The truffles were applied with a heavy hand. Again, not a do over coming in at $47.

My desert was the the seared cheesecake. The berries were overly tart. The searing had been done to a burnt taste. Not a do over. I am a cheese cake lover so this is unusual.

Funny thing is the chef (owner) made the rounds, to ALL the other tables, but not to our table. This was odd to say the least. More so where the time for meal prep was so delayed and the main courses (daily specials) were flawed. I would think he would want feedback. My wife took it as some type of snubbing on the chef’s/owners part. To me it was just weird in the circumstances.

Overall impression.

Would go again for a drink, or for the steak frites. Special of the day, I think not. Generally staff was friendly, with the exception of the chef/owner. Desert, there are better locations such as the bakery in Flesherton. Prices are high, yes, it is on the tourist strip, but I did not find the...
