My husband and I decided to give the Broken English Bistro a try on a recent Friday evening. We've both driven by the small restaurant, located in a small plaza, numerous times and were curious. The patio, unfortunately, wasn't open yet despite the beautiful weather so we had a seat in the small dining area. The menu is on a chalkboard along the back wall, and parts of it change daily. I opted to get the cabbage rolls meal with the side of cucumber salad and mashed potatoes (that day's side). My husband opted for the potato and cheese pierogies with a very garlicky Caesar salad. I had a clementine San Pellegrino (very nice!) and my husband had a Corona (we recognized only 2 of the imported beers - there were 4 we hadn't heard of). My husband wasn't blown away by his pierogies but I thought they presented well! There were 9 pierogies on the plate, topped with sour cream, bacon and chives. My cabbage rolls were to die for! Each bite just melted in my mouth and I wished I had more than the two rolls that came! The cucumber salad was nice, similar to one I make for myself at home. The mashed potatoes weren't fancy by any means but that wasn't why I ordered what I did! We will definitely be back - I'm wanting more of those cabbage rolls and I'm very curious about the beef...
Read moreWe were excited to try this little gem after reading the reviews so we drove from Hamilton. One of the worst experiences I have ever had . We didn't know whether we just grab a table or had to order at counter and then grab a table so we asked and the one lady took us to a table and wiped it off but did not give us a menu nor even take a drink order just complained about how busy it had been since opening that day. We sat there 10 minutes unnoticed so we asked for a menu. She gave us menus but still never asked if she could get us a drink. Another party of four came in and sat down. Five more minutes and another 5 people came in. After 20 minutes of being ignored she served the people that came in 10 minutes after us once again ignoring us. We got up and walked out the door and they didn't even notice. For all they knew we could have been leaving without paying or something. (We didn't even get so much as a glass of water.). So ignored again on our way out the door we will never go back! We took our business elsewhere! It is too bad because if it was good we would have come back another time with friends but I would not even recommend this place after their terrible service, or should I say lack of service that...
Read moreAmazing Polish comfort food in the north end of Guelph with a wide selection of Polish staples.
It wasn't busy from a Saturday which was a shame because this family run restaurant deserves more love from the community! The owners were very friendly and despite the patio being closed for the season they let us sit there.
The restaurant feels very cozy and is decorated with traditional Polish patterns and clothing.
The menu has a mix of salads, schnitzel and pierogies. We ordered a little bit of everything (e.g. goulash, schnitzel, cabbage rolls and pierogies). All good comes as a combo where you get a two small sides. For the schnitzel you have a choice of pork or chicken. I got the pork and found it to be very tender and lightly breaded. They ran out of cucumber salad which I wish I got to try so I opted for the ceasar salad instead. Pierogies were delicious with the bacon bits sprinkled on top. And the star was the coleslaw! It was nice and creamy and well balanced.
They have great outdoor seating and a very cute patio. Staff is friendly and...
