Let me start by saying that I'm torn about giving this review. I see friends of mine posting positive reviews about this place and it's a small town. My brother worked in their kitchen for a long time, but for my first time going, there were a lot of problems: They forgot to bring a coffee till they were reminded They forgot to bring a glass of wine until they were reminded They forgot the apple juice for my daughter, though at the end of the meal they came and apologized specifically for that, acknowledging that there had been some other issues. Two 12 oz steaks were ordered, one medium, the other medium-rare. What was brought to the table was a 12 and an 8, and given to the wrong people... I asked my wife to tell them to cook it some more, but she was too shy, and my brother (different brother than the one who'd worked there) didn't want to make a fuss. But they also charged me for two 12 oz., I didn't realize that till after we'd left. I ordered the rosemary and garlic rack of lamb. I got a delicious rack of lamb in a mustard sauce with some mustard crusting, no rosemary or garlic. It was delicious, but it was not what was on the menu. I asked our waitress, she went to the kitchen, told me it was supposed to be a mustard sauce, but I just checked against the screenshot of the table d'hôte they have online and says garlic and rosemary rack of lamb! For dessert, my daughter asked for a bowl of vanilla ice cream. Every adult had their deserts and finished them before she finally got hers. The waitress, while we were eating dessert came out and apologized for the delay and said it wasn't her that was forgetting it, she had to wait on the kitchen for the ice cream... she did seem sincerely apologetic on someone's behalf. Two of the adults had vanilla ice cream on their plates... it's desert, make the adults wait and give the kid their ice cream. Fortunately, by some miracle, my child was fairly patient (at least they were quiet while they asked me 20 times where their ice cream was), but they had to rush to finish while the rest of us packed up to leave (we'd been there 2+ hrs and wanted to go home). I didn't like their take on rhubarb and strawberry pie. The texture was grainy, though the flavour was fine. I think it would've been served better warm. This is more of a nit-pick and personal preference, whereas everything above actually felt like mistakes, and too many to be excused. my daughter felt the chicken fingers were too few and a bit dry, but I saw her power through all of them in about a minute, and it's not the restaurant's fault she's a tiny 9yo that eats more than many adults. She also reported this after listening to us dissect all the issues we had there while walking home, so she may have wanted to imitate us.
The waitress was pleasant, though she did apologize a lot. Staff were attentive, plates didn't linger, in spite of it being very crowded and very loud. Everyone liked the food, and I felt that it was high quality (props for the very good local meat). The presentation and thought for the dishes was excellent. While some of the flavours in dishes were very subtle (a few reviews incorrectly call things bland), I very much appreciated spot on mixes of flavour and texture on all the dishes I could try (except that pie).
As I punched in the tip to pay for the meal for everyone I'd brought out, the waitress again apologized for the many delays. I'm a softy and as she apologized, I tipped 15% instead of less as I'd planned, but now I feel bad about not making more of a point. That's the most significant issue: I don't want to go out to a restaurant, drop a few hundred for a birthday/father's day dinner (or any dinner), and then feel bad about it afterward. I don't want to have to argue or nitpick in a restaurant, and so I choose restaurants where I feel I won't have to (and don't mind a small premium for that). That's not what we got tonight, and that...
Read moreI've gone to Citron many, many times. There is no such thing as a bad experience there. The staff is excellent. The food is excellent. This is a real gem. One thing, however, I won't do: I won't go to dinner with Stuart Thiel, who gave a poor review. What a complainer!!!! Can you imagine inviting that fellow to your home for dinner??!! He'd critique the bathroom tissue!!! Get over yourself Stuart. Also, if he thinks 15% is an adequate tip in the best of times, he's not only overly critical, he's...
Read moreEverything was exceptional. From the food, to the portions to the staff. I've know the chef and his wife from 7 years ago when I worked around Huntington. I was fearful that they had closed due to Covid, but when I went back the food was as delicious and the ambiance as warm as I remembered it. This place is a great experience that is worth the gas even if you live far from Huntington. I'll definitely come back many...
