My husband and I had dinner here on our last night in Peggy’s Cove. We wanted to experience some traditional Acadian dishes. Sarah, our server, was friendly and very helpful with answering our questions about items on the menu. We decided on two dishes and a dessert. The meat pie came with a salad and their house made lemon poppy seed dressing. That dressing should be bottled and sold! It is that good! The meat pie was delicious! Full of tender, well seasoned meat and the crust made of their biscuit dough melts in your mouth. The fish cakes came with baked beans and carrots, We have tried fish cakes at three different restaurants on our drive from Digby to Peggy’s Cove. These are the best we have had! Mostly fish whereas the ones we have had up until now were mostly mashed potatoes with a little bit of fish. The carrots were delicious! The marinade took those carrots to an entirely different level. The baked bean full of flavor! We chose Pouding Chomeur. Oh my! It was decadent! So moist it melted in your mouth! And, we bought two of their biscuits. One to eat there and one to take with us for breakfast later. The biscuits were soft on the inside with a little bit of a crust on top. Everything we had was cooked or baked to perfection. This restaurant serves homemade high quality food at a very fair price! This was the best meal we had while in the area! The highlight was Gary, the owner, sharing his heritage and Acadian history with us. His love for the Acadian history and his family comes through as he talks about the area, how the recipes have been passed down through the generations and where he grew up. Gary is a wealth of information and freely answered our questions about the culture and where we might find more Acadian food as we continue our journey through Nova Scotia and PEI. We were sorry that we will be leaving the area without having another chance to eat here again and to learn more from Gary. I highly recommend! You will not be...
Read moreClearly our waiter tonight was NOT Acadian. Acadians are known for not only their hard work and resilience, but equally for their friendliness.....and tonight we had the opposite experience. My partner and I live on Transom drive (just up the road from the cafe). My parents were up visiting from Cheticamp and wanted to visit the cafe as theyd heard it was owned by someone from Cheticamp. Although wed just had supper we just had to pop in for a tea and coffee to check it out given they were leaving in the morning. We were all sorry we had. While the dining area was clean, our server was rude when we explained we were from Cheticamp and came to see who the owner was. We were greeted with a long face and overall rude behavior. My dad then waited at the counter to pay the bill and our server walked by him several times without so much as a snort. Maybe we didnt fit a certain profile in his eyes or he was taken back that wed just ordered tea, but either way the service was poor. So in the end although we only live up the road and although we have numerous Acadian friends and family who live in the city whom we could bring to the cafe.....we will instead choose another location. Instead Ill bring them to Cheticamp where we re known to be courteous and kind not only to tourists, but especially to paying customers ! My partner is a successful regional manager and again while he could bring colleagues there to have them experience the Acadian experience, wed rather not (and we wont) and instead Ill share our experience. So in the end we may have only had tea, coffee and toast, but you have lost customers. So maybe the moral here is if you go to the Cafe LAcadie...wear the proper clothes and order a big meal or you won`t be made to feel welcome. NOT the Acadian experience...
Read moreOne of the worst restaurants in halifax. Service was awful for only having three occupied tables and two servers. Our group of 4 came in to the restaurant told the server we were outside and then waited 15 minutes before a server came with menus and no drinks. Came back and took our orders, a lot of confusion over substitutions. Then waited 40 minutes before deciding to move inside. We then flagged over the receptionist from the attached hotel to get some coffee. After another 10 minutes we received our food which was subpar at best. My friends orders were switched getting the wrong rupe of bread and eggs. The poutine they boasted as having "real gravy and cheese curds" came with st. Hubert's packaged gravy. The eggs were obviously liquidized coming from a carton. And the toast that my friend asked to have well done was barely toasted. After receiving our food we had to ask for the third time to get some water. The server then asked us is there anyyyyything else we can do for you an incrediblt snide tone. Never checked how our meal was tasting. And as we were going to pay the server was loudly complaining about a table of ladies having patio drinks taking too long, which he rushed out by passively aggressively throwing their bill at them. I wouldn't recommend this restaurant to my worst...
