Happened upon Happiness is Homemade thanks to a sandwich board on the highway. Turned right, and I'll never look back. The baking here is mind blowing. I ordered the fudge rolls, the herb and chive scones, and the date squares....Every bite was a bit of heaven - chewy dates, perfectly textured scones, the fudge like a decadent trip to flavour'ville. The owner is probably one of the nicest people you can meet. I'm heading back as soon as she opens as I plan to eat a lot more of her treats before I leave...

This place smells great from the outside! A grandmother and her grandson make pastries in an open kitchen in full view of the customer. You want to buy everything! I'm a big foodie and very Picky with food, everything looks delicious! Cookies, gourmet squares, cake slices... we took a different selection of cookies, some chocolate chip, some raisin, some oatmeal, and some chocolate and salted caramel squares. A real treat! I have sampled oatcakes all across Nova Scotia (especially Cape Breton) and the ones at Happiness is Homemade are hands down the best. Crunchy, flavorful, the perfect hint of salt, delicious with tea. I'll be spending my summer trying to recreate them. This little bakery is a gem.
