Sea Chest is one of those spots where my wife and I say, "Oh, darn, we have to go past Sea Chest to get there!" Doesn't matter that the place we're going is 2 km off the main road and there is no other place we could possibly be going (Aylard Farm at Becher Bay): there is a sense that one is deliberately detouring along a route that goes past Sea Chest. The place is only open seasonally -- although Mouette, who runs everything single-handed, stretched it to the end of October this year -- but when it's open, prepare for an experience! Mouette specializes in ice cream sandwiches, and comes up with these amazing flavour combinations both for her ice creams and her crusts. Try her rum & raisin, or something on a dacquoise cookie. Turn off East Sooke Road (east of the General Store) onto Becher Bay Road. And oh, yes: Aylard Farm (East Sooke Regional Park) is kinda wonderful, too!

I would give a 6/5 star if I could. I don’t understand those who give great reviews and only give a 3 or a 4 stars. What an amazing treat after a hike in East Sooke Park/Aylard Farm. By far the best ever icecream sandwich. All organic and local handmade ingredients. I had the lemon with poppyseed and lime cookie, so refreshing on a hot day. Some may say $10 is a fair bit, but it is worth every penny; I rather have anyone of those anytime than a beer or a cocktail or a known chain coffee. And even if it was to be tight for someone’s budget, split it with your friend or spouse. The hours are limited to the weekends (maybe Fridays too, I can’t recall). My future hikes in the area will always, from now on, include a stop at Sea Chest.

Totally worth finding this place for an afternoon ice cream treat! Everything is completely homemade and absolutely delicious. The owner is incredibly friendly and welcoming. There's a few nice places to sit and enjoy your ice cream sandwich outside. My only downside, I guess, would be the size of the ice cream sandwich. You definitely get a large portion for $9.50, but we all found it to just be too much all at once. None of us in my group could finish the ice cream sandwich, and we all ended up throwing out about 1/4 in the trash because we just couldn't finish it. I would have preferred something smaller for a lesser price. That being said, it's worth the drive out there for sure. Go...
