There’s a very good reason for the lineups out there door. There’s a very good reason you may be waiting for a while after your order is placed, sitting on the couches and drinking the mint tea provided by the jovial proprietor:
The food is good. It’s damn good.
The kitchen is putting out what might be the best shawarma I’ve had in a long long time - properly seasoned, heaped on all the toppings and served with just soft/crispy pita.
Oh, and the falafel, oh the falafel - I’m comparing this to my benchmark L’As du Falafel in Paris, and Resto Pita is up there. Sweet, garlicky, crispy. Umami from the first touch of the tongue. And we haven’t even got to the potatoes, served with tangy and flavorful garlic sauce. Fantastic. The pizza? Yeah. You’ll wait for this pizza. And you won’t care. It will be worth it.
This is a local Lévis institution. The kitchen staff know their customers by name. Head chef keeps the staff moving in a dramatic tiny kitchen ballet just below organized chaos. The proprietor greets each customer like an old friend. And I suspect many are. The tables are packed. The pizzas are hand tossed and topped up in front of you. The mint tea is sweet and scalding. Regulars wait patiently for their order number to be called.
There’s a strong sense of community here, and it’s accompanied by some of the best mid-eastern proper cuisine you’re going...
Read moreI can’t comment on the food because I never got the chance to try it, but I want to share my experience when calling to ask an important question about their meat sourcing. I only eat halal that is hand-slaughtered (not machine-slaughtered), and unfortunately, many restaurants aren’t aware of their suppliers’ exact methods.
I called the restaurant on Friday, August 8 at 3:25 PM and asked if they were certified halal. They said “no.” I then asked if any of their suppliers were certified halal. They said “yes.” Naturally, I asked for the names of their suppliers so I could verify for myself — but they refused to provide this information.
This left me with no way to confirm whether their meat is truly halal by my standards. I don’t think it’s unreasonable to expect transparency from a business about where their food comes from, especially when dietary restrictions are involved. Instead, I was essentially told to “just trust us,” which is not good enough when it comes to religious dietary requirements.
If you care about strict halal standards, be aware that this restaurant will not share supplier details with you. Transparency matters — and without it, I can’t confidently support or...
