I don't usually leave reviews, but after last weekend's visit to Le Rustique, I felt compelled to share my experience. We decided to visit the restaurant for my dad's 70's birthday. Upon arrival, we were asked if we had a reservation. We did not, so they told us to go sit in the back. Totally fine, but the tone the waiter/host used made us feel a little uncomfortable right from the beginning. The waiter came to take our orders 2 minutes after we sat down, so we weren't ready, but knew that we wanted to have the cheese curds as a snack before the main meal, so we asked if we could at least place that order along with drinks and my 4 year old daughter's meal since she was hungry and grumpy. We were immediately told that we could not order any food until we had decided on the entire meal. I was annoyed, but fine. The waiter came back 10 min. later and we placed the full order as requested. The drinks came out, then the appetizer and my daughter's meal. Once that came out, we did not see the waiter at all (not even to check on us or ask if we wanted another drink) for almost an hour. The owner, however, came by twice to talk to us - the first time was before we placed our order. He asked if we had any questions about the menu. I asked if they had just regular cheddar cheese for the burger as it was not listed on the menu. He said "I'm sure you can just ask the waiter for it. We definitely have cheddar in the kitchen..I'm the one who places the food orders". However, when we asked the waiter, we were told they did not have any cheddar..only what was on the menu. It just seemed odd to me that the owner would say something just on a whim, and not even go back to the kitchen to ask the staff if they had it on hand. It's an easy thing to do and does not require more than 30 seconds of your time. Anyway, back to the meal...after waiting almost an hour for our main meal, the owner came by again to see how we were doing. We told him we were still waiting for our food. At that point, we were all hungry and grumpy, and my daughter was getting restless. He seemed surprised that we were still waiting and said he was going to go check and get back to us. He walks away, and never comes back. I looked at the front of the restaurant, and he was sitting at the bar. No update, no apologies for the long wait, no communication whatsoever. The least he could have done was come by and give us an update, and maybe offer us another drink. After I saw that, I decided to get up and leave. There was a bit of a confrontation with the owner, which caught me off guard, so we left feeling hungry and uncomfortable. I can't rate the food because I didn't get to eat any of it besides the cheese curds. But the service itself is what I'm reviewing, and it was probably the worst I've ever...
Read moreWhen selecting this restaurant, I read a review that stated we needed a reservation to come here. I called with a 30 minute heads up for a party of four. The woman told me she had one table left and would save it for us. We get there and are not greeted right away. We stood around looking for someone who may be a hostess, which was hard to tell because there is no sort of uniform. The bartender seems to be the only server and was also the one who answered the phone. She takes us to a table surrounded by two other empty tables and says again this is my last table. We roughly spent two and a half hours here and not by choice. We were starving and were ready to order right away. We were not checked on for a water refill until the food came and that was the only one we got. My pork was undercooked and full of fat. My fiancé did enjoy his lamb and our friends enjoyed the deer. This is the only reason this restaurant gets three stars. Portions are small for the price. The service was awful and the amount of time to get anything was awful. The bathrooms are not marked so I guessed they were unisex and ended up in one with the toilet seat up. Gross. The other two empty tables were never...
Read moreWhat a fantastic experience.. I've heard great things about the rustique and was not disappointed. Our table shared a few dishes: crab cakes, deer tartar, fois gras, Bison and a chicken burger. Everything was out of this world. The bison fell off the bone and the appetizers were all exceptional.
My 11 year old son claims the chicken burger was the best he's ever had and was impressed with the Shirley Temple with the fancy toothpicks. Even the sides (sweet potatoe fries and salad) were homemade and delicious in their own right. Generous portion sizes, good craft beer and good wine selection.
Staff were friendly and knowledgeable, even catering to extra toothpick requests from the 11 year old.
Complementing the dining experience, the restaurant's atmosphere lives up to its name "rustique". It has a true cottage feel and the space itself is beautiful. Additionally, there is a game section with a pool table, mega Jenga and other games. We took advantage of these and the adults and kid had a great time.
We got to chatting with the owners who are lovely people and clearly pour their heart into this restaurant.
This place has my highest...
