Competent sushi, at tourist-only prices. Lakeside Sushi is a place where you can get tasty sushi that tastes fresh. Right away, I'll let ya know that you don't have to worry about this sushi being terrible; because it will be totally acceptable. The service was good, and the food came out in a reasonable amount of time. I think they could spend a bit more time making the restaurant feel more welcoming (the tables and chairs are pretty basic) but that doesn't matter to most people. The miso soup was really tasty, and is my favourite miso on the island. The rolls I tried were well made, but contained fake crab (which, oddly, wasn't listed on the menu) so I had to pick it out. The sashimi was bizarre. I ordered 8 pieces, but received 10 thin strips of fish. I have a feeling that they are pre-cut for nigiri, and simply dolled out as sashimi. I'm not a big fan of this technique, as sashimi should not be served in thin strips; and considering the price/size, this might be the most expensive sashimi on the island. I've had less expensive sashimi in New York (which is saying something) This restaurant is clearly aimed at tourists who don't mind paying inflated prices. Considering the lack of combo deals for supper, and the 30% inflated price tag for most items; this place seems to price locals out from eating here (which would explain the emptiness of the restaurant). The food was good, save for the sashimi; but I won't be coming back due to the high tourist tax.

I had a pleasant experience at Lakeside Sushi in Lake Cowichan — the service was excellent, and the staff were very friendly and attentive. I ordered the chicken karaage and was a bit surprised to receive chicken wings coated with Japanese flour instead of the traditional karaage style I was expecting. The portion was generous, which I really appreciated, but I think it could be improved to better reflect the authentic dish. Overall, a nice spot with great service, and I’d be happy to come back to try their other menu items.

Simply delicious. Our sushi was fresh, the wasabi was my kind of hot and flavorful. I was quite surprised by the price and service. Great prices and service! Thank you. We will have to visit Lake Cowichan and Lakeside Sushi more often.

My husband and I went to Lakeside sushi for supper Saturday night. I had to drag him there, he had the impression that Lakeside sushi only served sushi, so I ordered for him. He had beef teriyaki, which came with several delicious items on the side. Salad, a plate of tempura vegetables, a bowl of rice and the teriyaki beef that came on a sizzling skillet. My husband loved it! Myself, I had tuna tataki and a spinach salad. It was so delicious. I never had their spinach salad before . It came warm with this delicious dressing on it(YUM!). We also had sake. My husband was surprised when we got the bill, it was under $50! What an amazing little gem this place is! Lakeside sushi, more than...
