They’re finally open again!!!! Excellent, friendly staff this year, big scoops still..
A few changes: a couple years ago it was $6.50 for two flavours in a waffle cone. For two of those this year I just spent $18.45! That’s a huge increase and I would actually happily pay that if the quality was still there but I think they used to have island farms and now it’s kawartha which okay, sometimes things change but I just paid $1.50 for a waffle cone that is not a waffle cone - it’s a regular cone shaped like a waffle cone wtf and the kid had to scoop it three times (went through multiple cones and gave up and gave us cracked cones and offered cups) because he literally could not get the ice cream onto the cone without crumbling the cone. If you are a fast eater the broken cracked cone won’t matter but if you aren’t a human vacuum you’ll be covered in ice cream by the time you finish.. and then you’ll have to eat a gross cone. Should have just thrown it out. I hate to rag on this local business but if you want to save money - the product is not the way to do it; maybe reduce staff (6 kids working on a cloudy weekday…?). This place was worth driving up the highway and turning around for before. Also, what happened to the iconic signage with all the scoops (it was a literal ice cream mountain before!)?
Hoping things change before summer is in...
Read moreIf it's any evening of the week and you drive by Ice Cream Mountain and you don't stop, did you really drive the Malahat? This is an absolute must. If you see the open sign illuminated, do yourself a favour and finish the drive with 2 scoops of some of the best ice cream Vancouver Island has to offer. They're not open all year so it's best to stop by as much as you can because when the illuminated sign with the big ice cream cone on it turns off, it doesn't go back on for what seems like an eternity. I've religiously gone here ever since I was a wee whipper snapper and it's my favourite ice cream place in the world. I'm not sure what the hours are but I've witnessed first hand that open sign illuminated at 11:30pm some weekends, which might just be the greatest thing I've ever experienced. There is nothing in this world like getting off the late ferry from Vancouver to realize that most everything is closed and you have a very long monotonous snack deprived drive ahead. But as you begin your travel on the Malahat and you see this glowing sign, you suddenly realize that everything is going to be ok going forward.
The staff here are super friendly and the scoops are ginormous. If you haven't ever been, I would recommend changing that as soon...
