Far and away the best poutine in all of Québec. The gravy is spiced to perfection, savoury, meaty, and thick, with a taste that you could drink for days on end. The curds, exactly as squeaky as you'd like them to be, salty but not overly so, complement the gravy draped over them as completely as yin and yang. This squeaky but not squishy texture gives your mouth a break from the mountain of fries underneath. The fries provide this squish, imperfectly sized but never imperfectly cooked, and never soggy despite being squashed by the gravy and curds. Each fry as idealistic as the best, saved-for-last fry in an order of extra-large fries from any fast food place.
The service was great despite my broken French, and the place was full of locals, with no English to be heard. The only caveat is that they only take cash and are a bit of an excursion without a car from the heart of Montreal, but it is undoubtedly worth the trip, and would be even worth the trip from the West Coast for any...
Read moreWe specially made this pilgrimage to this gem of poutine. It is not a secret that the best cooking has to start with the right treatment of the basic ingredient. Alfa used fresh potato and made all the right steps to turn it into the best country style French fries in house. With that, adding on a good supply chains on cheese, gravy , smoke meat and hot dogs to create its menu. Alfa is not like other restaurants, it provides its customers with a generous portion together with a low price. Even more interesting, Alfa is sticking its business on cash bases transaction to help keep the price low. Customers will not have to face the question on tips as electronic transactions are not available. This is actually a good tourist experience for those who are willing to get out of Montreal in quest of the best Quebec poutine. We enjoyed the best poutine we ever had in Quebec, and we will be back next time to bring in...
Read moreAlfa had been recommended to me by a colleague and the best poutine in Quebec and it did NOT disappoint! I went at around 10pm and it was pretty busy. I ordered a poutine and a sub, my cousin ordered a hamburger, as my colleague warned me the poutine was quite a decent portion size and generous with cheese curds. I spoke to the owner and his wife while I waited for our food; they were so warm and friendly. The meal was absolutely DELICIOUS and fresh!! So was the sub and my cousin said his burger was delicious as well...10 out of 10. The owner came over to see if we liked the food and I told him it was delicious and the best poutine I ever had (because it was 😋) and actually he gave me a free junior poutine before leaving ( I mentioned to him that I live in Toronto)...which was so kind. I'm so impressed with Alfa's food and service. This is now a must have any time I'm in the...
