DO NOT STAY HERE. THE WORST HOTEL I HAVE EVER STAYED IN. The hotel did not provide any information as to what time check-in normally takes place. I had written 2pm as my arrival time on my reservation, but did not receive any further instructions. We arrived a bit early, around 1pm, to find the building completely deserted. No one answered the phone and our phone messages were never returned. I eventually got the attention of the lone cook on duty in the kitchen, by knocking on the window, and she said quite rudely that no one was there to help us and we must come back at 2pm. This wasn't even enough time to go get lunch somewhere as we didn't want to be late returning. When we came back, the building was still deserted. By about 2:15, the cook took pity on us and gave us our key even though she did not know how to check us in. Later that evening, when the restaurant was open, the waitress simply said her colleague who was supposed to check us in was "late". I'll say!!! We never saw any "front desk" staff the whole time we stayed there, which was a shame, as we could have used some local expertise in planning our time in the area. The room itself was not very well laid out (e.g. nowhere to put the hand towel in the washroom!!). The door of our room was too big for the frame and had to be yanked or slammed to get it to open or shut. The icing on the cake was this morning, as we were hurriedly getting ready to leave, the water to our room completely shut off. Once again, no front desk staff were available to help, but I found a maid who told us the water filtration system shuts off for 15 minutes every day!!!! WHY WOULD YOU TURN OFF THE WATER TO ALL YOUR GUEST ROOMS AT 9 AM EVERY DAY WITH NO WARNING???!!!!!!! My husband was unable to shower due to this, and we quickly packed up and left because we were so angry with everything. It's ironic that this place is called "comme chez soi," because I have never stayed anywhere that felt less like home than this miserable excuse...
Read moreWe decided to go for a drive to the Eastern Townships and have an early supper and this restaurant had good reviews so we tried it out. The service was acceptable but the food was another story. I ordered a rack of lamb cooked rose. The waitress asked if I would also like wild mushrooms and I said yes, on the side please. When the plate arrived, I could not see the rack of lamb pieces at all. They were hiding under a mountain of mushrooms covered with an ultra thick sauce. After digging them out they were overcooked with this thick sauce all over them. The taste was ruined by this.||Some Sound Advice...Think twice before ordering the mushrooms.||My dining partner ordered some beets with goat cheese and liver as her meal. She is an excellent cook in her own right. Right off she told me that the diced beets came from a can and barely touched her plate. When she tasted the liver plate she was equally unimpressed.||All in all it was a so so experience that was not good or bad. Just...
Read moreMy husband and I spent a lovely time at the Rustick Auberge Brasserie in the area of Quebec that is very near the Mont Orford National Park, close to Magog. The owner was graciousness itself, the restaurant was good, the rooms were basic, but very clean and the price was very reasonable. I sense that this young man is working very, very hard to make a go of this. His wine list at the brasserie is very impressive and worth a trip to Magog just to sample some of his collection. He is so earnest, intelligent, creative and well-meaning that he deserves to be successful. What the place lacks in 'glitz' he makes up for in good food and his very warm and caring attention to his guests. No breakfast is served; maybe sometime in the future. As business improves I think he will make more improvements. We definitely plan to stay there again. We fell in love with Magog and are happy that it is only 3 hours from our...
