Dec 2024 - Thie review is about the latest visit to the resturant. Ordered the family platter with 2 rack of ribs and 3 portions of chicken wings with side of corn bread, fries, beans and coleslaw costing close to $130 plus tips, totalling $ $150
Pros - Amount of meat on wings was good. Pork itself was flavoured well
Cons - This time I was majorly disapoointed because of a many things:
Store had something called Monday special which costed $39 (full rack of ribs along with portion wings and fries). Had I bought these 2, it would have costed me close to $92, however when we told the server what we needed (2 full racks, 3 portions of wings, she suggested the party pack plus pay extra for the portion fo wings. The whole food costed us $130 (including taxes). She did not proactively tell us about the Monday deal which would have saved me money. I would say that they lack customer service.
I asked them to make the ribs well done but they actually burned it. All i could taste with flavor of pork was the charred meat that was sticking to my teeth and adding a weird un-palatable burnt taste in every bite. Please train your staff. Some really don't know that overcooked snd burnt tastes horrible.
Sides : Coleslaw was sad and flavorless, beans seemed ok but i have had better at many places, fries were definitely the costco cavendish fries whoch are good but you expect more from a BBQ joint.
BBQ sauce was too sweet.
Jun 2022-My go to place for pork ribs. They make it well and ribs are well done and juicy. Postion size is good and they offer options to choose 2 sides. Again, there are various permutation combinations to choose from when you are at the store. The large variety of sauces provided as condiments is also an added benefit. I live the inferno sauce and it is super hot if that is something that you like and yiur taste buds can handle. They also have a decent variety of sandwiches available and I liked the one with pulled pork although it was a bit on the sweeter side I wish it was a bit less sweet and then it would be perfect. This time we ordered a full rack of ribs and chicken wings and both items were great. Corn bread was not fresh this time around and seemed stale and started crumbling as we started to eat. They do not deliver and it is take-out or dine-in only. For dine-in, the ambiance is a bit dull. l highly...
Read moreAfter contemplating for a few months I decided to go here and get lunch with my friends after they insisted on coming here even after reading a hearing about the food quality and experiences my friends have had.
We got the #5 platter which feeds 4-6 people which came with 3 racks of ribs, 2lbs of pulled pork, 2 lbs of wings, 2 sides, fries and onion rings, and a "tub of sauce" and we got extra 2lbs of brisket which came up to about $170 which is alright in price.
But I'll be honest. Going in my expectations weren't high what so ever and when the food came. It very well matched it.
The best part of the party tray was probably the ribs, other than that I wouldn't go back for anything else. The brisket was 3/10 considering that they just chopped it up into small pieces and smothered it with sauce to hide the fact that it's kinda tough and there's absolutely no smoke ring on it and then call it "Memphis BBQ" because that's just wrong. The pulled pork was quite similar as well,J smothered in sauce to the point where I couldn't even taste the smoke flavor (if there even was any). When it said wings, I thought it was gonna be smoked chicken wings cause who doesn't like that? But no; they were just fried (most likely frozen) and covered with sauce.
When it comes to BBQ you can't really forget about the sides cause that makes the meal just as great. And the sides were more so lack luster. The cornbread was really bland and the only taste I could get from it was the brown sugar that was sprinkled on it. The baked beans honestly just tasted like the ones you get from those Heinz cans you can pick up from the grocery store. The coleslaw was probably the best out of all of them, but it wasn't that great itself. And lastly the fries and onion rings, I'll be honest. When you think BBQ of any sorts, you wouldn't think fries and onion rings would be a side choice, you would think, Mac n cheese, potato salad, coleslaw, cornbread, and really good baked beans that they made with left over brisket from last night!!
With all that being said. If I had to compare this place with any other restaurant that served BBQ, it's probably fall under the category of a "Very expensive Montana's"
But in all honesty you don't have to take what I say. You can honestly try it yourself and be the critic to whether or not you like it or find it remotely satisfying when it...
Read moreEXTREMELY Poor Customer Service. A "Monday Special" is something my family and I indulged from time to time. On Monday Oct 11/21 we decided to do just that. When I arrived at the Markham location for my pick up my order had been give to someone else by mistake. In fact I had passed the customer on his way out.
After some confusion by the staff they figured what had happened. I was told to please wait and a new order would be prepared for me. During this time, they called the client with the wrong order to tell him to please come back. That his original order was waiting for him "not to worry about paying for the extra order. About $40 +."
Meanwhile my food which was supposed to be ready for pick up at a specific time which had now come and gone took time to prepare. Two customers came and went to get their "pre-order food" close to a 20 minute wait....
Rude Customer Service:
There was not even the smallest gesture to compensate for the mistake. Not even offering some water or anything while I waited. After I mentioned this to the cashier. "Listen the customer that was given my order got $40 value for the mistake..." "my food was given away, I had to wait 20 minutes how am I being compensated for this?"
She looked and me and said in a rude fashion "it was a mistake" "what do you want?" She could have included two cans of pop and say sorry for the inconvenience or here is a 10% off coupon or I understand what can I do... what would you like... something/anything....instead I was told "What do you want" with attitude, as if I was the unreasonable party.
At this point I felt completely embarrassed as there were other customers in the restaurant waiting for their pick up.
Their food is ok wings and ribs fare. Average. We try to support local outlets like this to recover from COVID. They have take out only now. Rudeness is not worth the effort.
Will NOT order food ever again from Big...
