Hubby and I have dined at this Korean restaurant on a handful of occasions and have never been disappointed. The owner/chef used to own a restaurant in Itaewon specializing in jokbal (made with pork hocks). They also specializes in Korean fried chicken with house made sauces. Hence their name: Pig and Chick.
Portion sizes are good, and prices are reasonable. The Jokbal on rice was a nice shareable portion for hubby and I, along with fried mandu during our first visit. Hubby (who normally is averse to any meat with fat on it) really enjoys their jokbal as it's not oily and they have rendered down most of the fat from the pork hocks.
We ordered the jokbal platter (original, and half spicy/half original were both delicious) on subsequent visits with family and friends. They provided a number of house made banchan including pickled radish (they added yuzu juice which was a refreshing touch!), and lettuce to wrap around the jokbal pieces. We also tried the boneless fried chicken in spicy/ sweet, as well as soy garlic flavours, and both were really good.
The staff are genuine and helpful. Parking is available behind the restaurant. I love that Pig and Chick is located along Main Street Unionville, giving visitors more ethnically diverse...
Read moreMy boyfriend and I decided to give Pig and Chick Unionville a try for the first time, and while our experience had its highlights, it left us with mixed feelings.
To kick things off, we indulged in their deep-fried cheese sticks, and boy, were they a treat! Crispy on the outside, gooey on the inside, and bursting with cheesy goodness. They set the bar high for the rest of our meal.
Next up were the wings. We opted for two varieties: the onion/garlic wing and a new spicy wing that wasn't even on the menu. Unfortunately, the onion/garlic wing didn't quite hit the mark. It was dry, excessively powdery, and not at all what we anticipated. Disappointing, to say the least. As for the new spicy wing, it was decent but nothing to write home about. It lacked that wow factor we were hoping for, perhaps because it was still in the testing phase.
Service-wise it was good, but definitely on the slower side.
While our visit had its ups and downs, the standout dish for us was undeniably the deep-fried cheese sticks. If you decide to give Pig and Chick Unionville a try, definitely start with those. As for us, we might return to explore different items on the menu in the hopes of a more satisfying experience. Overall, it's a solid 3 out of 5...
Read morePig and Chick is a relatively new Korean restaurant tucked away in the corner of Main St Unionville. It's located next to the Dairy Queen, across from Unionville Arms and Chat Bar. Quick Tip: They have free parking right next/behind the restaurant!
They accept reservations online, but when I went on a Wednesday evening, they weren't very busy - there were a maximum of 2 tables occupied at any time. My mom and I ordered the half & half jokbal to share, and it came with the regular banchan (side dishes), like kimchi and bean sprouts. We got half of the original jokbal (didn't have much taste) and the BBQ jokbal (which came with sausages and rice cakes). The BBQ jokbal was definitely a favourite and flavour was very smokey, which we both liked. The original jokbal was just OK - not much flavour, especially compared to the BBQ flavour.
The service was very good too, they checked in on us a couple of times and gave us free refills of the banchan. They also have a photo booth at the entrance, which you can take 4 pictures and 2 copies for $10. You can have additional copies for extra charge, of course. They provide you with a few props and things too, but the pictures go a bit too quickly to get the...
