RJ's Urban Garden Cafe — Restaurant in Melfort

I found myself alone in Melfort on a cold November evening, what else to do but get dinner and a beer. And now I hope it happens again - I would absolutely go back to Urban Cafe.

The vibe of the cafe is great. It’s homey but not homemade. It’s got the warmth of a local coffee shop with a large menu of full meal choices and table service - not just a soup and sandwich spot. At one point all the tables were full, but it didn’t last too long. I enjoyed the friendly sounds of a lively dinner rush in the background. Volume was balance and would allow for conversation even at the busiest. The restaurant was inviting and relaxing and the space allowed me to journal while I ate my food.

Everything was very reasonably priced and although my Haddock was likely a frozen pre-breaded filet it was tasty. Everything was familiar, but not in a way that left me disappointed. Instead satisfied. The carrot cake really stands out, but I am admittedly a dessert person.

I called to order on-the-road food and was on speakerphone at the time (so I was unable to read the menu) so their employee (Anna? - I think was her name) was so incredibly helpful and kind.

She gave me several suggestions based on her favourites (The Avocado Club sandwich was most excellent!), suggested a few healthy options and she upsold a latte for us as well. Even though the restaurant was primarily a dine-in, she still accommodated my request, had everything ready for me when I arrived, and was delightfully friendly.

I would absolutely return to dine here, because when I stopped to pick up the food I was entranced by the location and vibe in the restaurant. Wish I had taken a photo of the food - but it was devoured, and enjoyed! Great...

I cannot express enough how thankful I am for RJ's Urban Garden and Raianne and her staff. Navigating a pandemic wedding has been difficult (to say the least) so when I heard that RJ's did private events, I jumped on the phone and our date was available. To the incredible food and drink, to the service (decorating for us - including putting the batteries in my candles because I was too lazy to do it?!!!), to the atmosphere... We were just blown away.
