I’m not someone who usually writes reviews, but my experience at the Black Birch Restaurant left quite an impression, but not in a good way. In all my years having dinner out, and also having been a server myself when I was younger, I have never encountered a situation where the server cared less about the customer’s experience than at this place. We went there for a belated Father’s Day dinner and my Mom and I enquired as to whether the server would recommend the chicken pesto or pork tenderloin. The server replied that she would recommend the tenderloin, so we both ordered that, and my mom asked for rice instead of potatoes due to dietary restrictions. When the meals came, the server put beef tenderloin down in front of us both. I knew immediately that it wasn’t correct, as it was covered in mushrooms, which I don’t like and wouldn’t have ordered. I let her know that was not what we had ordered, that we asked for the pork tenderloin, to which she made a snarky comment that we have to specify which tenderloin, then laughed sarcastically, and walked away. She did realize that my Mom was supposed to have rice and said that would come out. We both sat there, a bit shocked at her response, waiting for her to return, but she never did. She never once came back to ask how the meals were. The rice came out 10-15 minutes after the meals were served with no pleasantries, just a drop on the table and her rushing away. We picked at the meals, as we were given no other choice except to leave hungry and ruin our Father’s Day outing. When she finally came to clear our plates, she made some comment about us not liking the meals, at which point I spoke up again about us not receiving the right orders and she proceeded to argue about how she was right and how we should have ordered. In the end, she split the difference between the cost of the beef tenderloin and the pork tenderloin, which does little to correct the situation - we didn’t get what we ordered and we paid more for dinner than intended, because beef tenderloin is more expensive than pork tenderloin. This could have been dealt with in a hundred different positive ways, which would have left us with a good impression of the restaurant and plans to return, but instead, I would not recommend this place and certainly would never...
Read moreSuch a disappointing evening! I brought 8 women from our Dining Club to this restaurant having been here before thinking it a great atmosphere for our ladies to enjoy. I ordered the Mussels Provencal and knew the moment the owner/server placed the food in front of me that they were not right. The smell of mussels was a horse manure smell and the taste of the two I tried tasted like what I would expect horse manure to taste like. With great reserve I let the owner know and described the issue to her as above. She said she didnt know what horsey meant and the mussels were brought in fresh that day. She was abrupt, non apologetic and made me feel foolish. My friend beside me said she smelled them also as soon as brought to table. My friend agreeing with me and saying so to owner seemed to prompt owner to ask if I would like something else and the pork would take too long (?). Again she said mussels were fresh that day. I said brie platter would be fine expecting I couldn't go wrong with that. Yup, disappointing again....brie and toasted bread thin rounds. That's all. No compote or fruit or glaze or anything else. I did not finish but did not say anything. On paying bill she commented in a condescending manner that perhaps they weren't cooked enough to my liking. No apology but took item off bill. Our service was slow and unfriendly. I felt treated poorly and certainly will not bring business to her again. Shame on you Black Birch owner, not because of food but because of your...
Read moreGetting 7 busy mom's together for dinner is no easy task, but one of my friends somehow, made it happen to bring us all together to celebrate my birthday. I found the baked brie with apples to be bland, the cheddar and apple stuffed pork loin was absolutely top notch, and the lemon tart was delicious, i did not care much for the mango cheesecake or the chocolate peanut butter pie as both were under sweetened for my liking. Food aside, I must say that in my 30+ years experience in the service industry I have never seen a server conduct themselves so appaulingly. She spent the entire evening taking cheap shots, rolling her eyes and being needlessly sarcastic to one member of our party. She went so far as to make disparaging comments about her to other members of the party including when she pretended to fake stab this individual behind her back to me. This is a restaurant that I have frequented and loved until now but this incident made us all uncomfortable and put a damper on the entire evening. I pulled this server aside and quietly pointed out her behavior to which I received a fluff off apology before she walked out on the conversation. Perhaps it is time she retires from this profession because she is apparently to unprofessional to not let a customers right to ask questions not set her off and make her behave like a petulant child. Just gross and...
