Not impressed. Ordered a sub and an all dressed pizza via the on line ordering system and after about 90 minutes had passed, we had lost track of the time and did not realize how much time had gone by, I decided to call the restaurant to find out what happened. Imagine my surprise when I was told they never received the order!
Not only that, but the person on the phone tells me that it looked like the paper had jammed in the machine which prints out the orders and he just noticed that. To make matters worse, he said that we should never order on line and always call on the phone. When I asked why they have the on line ordering in that case, he said that it was expected today. Well if it doesn't really work properly, that makes little sense. To take it to an even higher level of bad, I was not offered even the slightest apology or discount if I wanted to place my order on the phone. In fact he seemed to be going out of his way to make the situation MY fault and was taking no responsibility for the situation at all. So I said 'No, thank you, I've ordered from somewhere else.' leading him to say nothing more than OK and then hang up.
So after about a month we decide to give them another shot. Ordered by phone this time for a sub and an all dressed small pizza. Thankfully they have a 50% off the second item deal or the price would have been outrageous. A small pizza here costs about the same as a medium or even a large elsewhere and a small sub is more than a 14" at most other places. But we gave them a chance.
The food arrived soon enough and was nice and hot. The pizza was average at best overall with a very nice crust. At regular prices it would have been a decent pie. But where they lost me was the submarine. The pizza dough bread for the bun was tasty as were the steak and pepperoni and sausage and other ingredients inside until I tasted the cheese. My taste buds did a total flip flop at the taste of what was either Kraft singles slices or Velveeta or even Cheeze Whiz. Gooey, orange glop that totally ruined the entire thing. That is when I took another look at the menu to discover that they list 'Real Mozzarella' as an OPTION for their submarines and that it costs an extra $3.50! The sub alone is almost $20 and they expect an additional $3.50 for real cheese on the damn thing? Are they INSANE??? I ended up scraping as much of the orange glop out of the sub, heated up a pan on the stove, tossed the contents of the sub in the pan and topped it with some nice Mozzarella that I always have on hand in the fridge. While that was going on, I tossed the bun under the broiler in the toaster oven to warm up and then when the mozza had started to melt, I slid the bun on top and flipped it over and finally had the sub I should have received in the first place.
So the bottom line is Nino will never hear from me ever again. I can make better pizzas in my own oven from scratch and for a lot less money and they really need to rethink their ridiculous extra charge for proper cheese in their subs. To be honest, the sub would be better with no cheese at all compared to whatever it is they put inside to save a few cents. Because at restaurant costs, I doubt the mozza would add more than 0.50 to their costs per sub. In my entire life this is the first time I have ever come across such a policy and I hope it will be the last. The one good thing to come out of this is that now I am much more careful when reading a menu and only use on line ordering from large, reputable chain restaurants who know how to do it properly and...
Read moreWe were visiting Montreal for three nights and were looking for a place to eat near our AirBnB. After checking on the local options we chose Pizza Nino and although there was a large family gathering that evening they fit the six of us in. We went in planning to have pizza but ended up with just one pizza order as two couples ended up sharing the specials which included a starter, main, dessert and coffee, all for under $23.
We enjoyed everything about the place: the food, the excellent, friendly service, the relaxed atmosphere ( it was like being at a big family gathering with adults, kids, a birthday cake). We liked the fact we could take our own beer or wine which the server opened and poured, all without a corkage fee or additional charge.
Two nights later, we were back again for our last night in Montreal. This time everyone ordered and shared the specials. Once again, the same friendly service, great tasting food, home made sauces and value for our money. I hope that Nino's is there for our next Montreal visit as it is becoming harder to find long-time family owned and operated restaurants with a focus on the customer service and...
Read moreWent to Nino's today with a group of elderly ladies . The service was fantastic. The waitress was pleasant, helpful (one of the ladies could not open a vinegar packet and the help was done efficiently, with humor and without anyone else noticing) The service was fast, the portions plentiful. When most could not finish their meal the waitress quickly suggested that the remaining portions be taken home and take home containers soon lined the table. Tea and coffee was served with dessert and everyone ate at the same time with no one being forgotten or served late. With such a group usually there are some negative comments. Not at Nino's, only good things said and suggestions that we return were plentiful. Thank you for a really enjoyable...
