Restaurant Casa Vinho — Restaurant in Montreal

I had dinner there with my husband on Valentine's day. It's the second time that we have been there, and it would be the last time. Actually we were quite happy with the service and the food... till we had our desserts. The waitress got the wrong dessert for my husband, but he didn't mind. He actually liked it. I would have liked mine as well if I didn't get a slice of melon that tasted terrible. When I told my husband about it, he looked at the melon and said "maybe because it's not so fresh". When he had a bite of it, he found that it really tasted awful, which was totally different from the one that he got. It's like it went bad long time ago. Never did I taste any melon like that in my whole life. I didn't continue to eat, and started to have some discomfort in my stomach. Being 7-month pregnant, I am very careful with food. Never had I thought that I would have such a bad experience and need to worry about food safety issue in such a restaurant. The waitress apologized and gave me a small chocolate and a rose to make it up for me. But it cannot. Having ruined my Valentine's day dinner and brought me the risk of potentially harming my baby, she actually thought that a chocolate and a flower would be enough as compensation?! I will never go there again, and I will tell everyone that I know not...

If, like me, you have tried to make a reservation on the patio for a birthday supper and been bullied out of it by the owner over the phone, or, again like myself, you have woken up grinding your teeth in the night because that evening you paid close to $20 for what can only be described as an overly-salted, dehydrated chicken in a bag, you might have a hard time understanding why this restaurant has 4.4....

You suppose that the neighborhood must be populated mostly with demographics who don't ask for appropriately-seasoned, moist and tender meat or friendly customer service. Perhaps more importantly, you realize that the selection of restaurants in the area is pretty much non-existent (save the two greasy spoons and a rather disappointing coffee shop). Indeed, if you don't want to go west of St-Michel (Promenade Masson) or south on Pie-IX (Promenade Ontario), you have nothing but Casa Vinho to satisfy your wining and dining needs.

Suddenly the 4.4...

If you have no palate and you like reheated food to become dry and not good for eat it anymore, this is your place. Also if you want to eat cod-fish with the taste of the freezer, fried up and with raw veggies for $30 this is also your place. We felt insulted. Never anymore.

UPDATE What is even more insulting and something that people should consider is that if the chef knows that the food is cooked long time ago and reheated by himself, he will serve you this food anyway. And he will wait for you to complain and do something new? Seriously? We have arrived 4 tables at the same time and all the food for all the tables went out in...
