Shirin at Bee Knees Cafe & Bakery in Nanaimo is an absolute gem! I recently visited this charming little spot and was blown away by the warm, welcoming atmosphere and the incredible fresh-baked goods. Shirin herself is such a delight—friendly, attentive, and clearly passionate about what she does. The pastries and baked goods are out of this world! Everything is made fresh daily, and you can truly taste the love and care that goes into each bite. From the flaky croissants to the decadent muffins, every item was made with perfection. What really made the experience special was Shirin’s hospitality. She took the time to chat with us, recommend her favorites, and even shared a few baking tips. It’s clear that she genuinely cares about her customers and takes pride in creating a memorable experience. If you’re in Nanaimo, Bee Knees Cafe & Bakery is a must-visit. Whether you’re stopping by for a coffee and a treat or picking up some fresh bread, you’re in for a treat. Thank you, Shirin, for such a wonderful experience—we’ll definitely be back!

Had a delicious, grilled wrap with the tastiest pesto sauce and fresh veggies. The peanut yam stew was delightful as well and the portions more than ample - I ended up taking half the wrap to eat on my hike later, along with a savory spinach cheese scone that was wonderful the next day heated up with my breakfast. All very carefully & freshly prepared dishes with great flavors / textures, fantastic value and such a nice family too. The patio and interior are lovely as well. There seems to be plenty of nearby street parking (I'm not clear on whether it's ok to park in the lot next to it). I highly recommend a visit and I'll definitely come here over any of the places nearer the harbor whenever I'm transiting through Nanaimo!

The Bee’s Knees CafĂ© in Nanaimo is more than just a café—it feels like community. Cozy bee-themed dĂ©cor, amazing food , and excellent coffee make it a must-visit. What makes it really special is the owner, Shirin Younessian. She came to Canada in 2015 and took over the cafĂ© in 2016, turning it into a warm, inclusive space with catering, cooking classes, and healthy, delicious meals. Shirin always takes time to chat with customers and make everyone feel welcome, which gives the cafĂ© its heart. If you’re in Nanaimo, don’t miss this gem—great food, friendly staff, and a true community vibe. đŸâ˜•đŸ„—

I really enjoy visiting this coffee shop. It's my all around favorite coffee shop in the city. I usually spend upwards of an hour there if it isn't too busy. I'm mindful that they are a small locally run business and they do ask that you limit your stay to 45mins if the cafe is full. I rate my experience as a strong 5 stars based on the following factors in no particular order. Friendliness of service - They are kind and welcoming Comfort of seating - lots to choose from, both indoor and outdoor. It looses some minor points in this category as it doesn't have a view! Quality of food and beverages - best matcha latte and hot chocolate i've had in the city. The food is super fresh. The baked goods are delicious, my fave is the blueberry/lemon muffin. Although their meal options are equally good. Try the kebab wrap or one of their soups. Reliability of Wifi - stable and reliable with no time restrictions Ambient noise level - doesn't get too loud or noisy inside. Cleanliness - The bathrooms and the cafe itself is very clean.

I highly recommend you try...

I was so happy this morning that I could go there it was just opening and I was walking to a bus. I really wanted a coffee and because I have a swollen lymph node in my throat I wanted an iced one. I ordered a large iced coffee with soy milk she said it was actually an iced latte that’s what they had. I said yeah since it’s made with espresso that’ll be fine. Before she told me the price!!!! $9.40!!! I was like I’m sorry I can’t justify paying that!!! I wanted to support local too (higher prices are easier to justify if it’s a small local business BUT NOT THAT HIGH!!!! I was sad but I said ok a hot dark roast please for like $5-6 (with soy). She said they don’t have dark roast only med. The espresso is only medium too. I said no it’s ok medium is usually too acidic for me. I Walked out extremely...
