Pub 981 — Restaurant in Neguac

Went for a drive on a beautiful fall day and stopped at Pub 981 for lunch. First impressions were really good. They followed the covid protocols and were very friendly. Nice atmosphere in dinning room. Service was very fast and friendly. However, things began to fall apart when drinks were delivered. My wife and I each had a draught beer, her cracked canoe was very flat and odd tasting. I asked to have a different one which they quickly complied. My wife had the clams and salad. They were just ok, and actually wet and not very well cooked, they were very pricy and nothing exceptional. I had the smoked meat sandwich. I have to be honest a say it was the worst i have ever had. The frozen Montreal smoked meat you get from Costco was hands down better. The portion of smoked meat was very small and had been fried???? (very odd). The bread was so greasy i could not eat it. We are not complainers so we paid and left (was not looking for a free meal, maybe we should have given them the chance to fix it). Pub used to be a place where you could get wasted and gamble your money away. Music was loud and people were jolly. Nowadays it tries unsuccessfully to be both a party house and a quiet chill drinking area. Music and bands are being played way to loud to be having a conversation with anyone. But if loud music is what your looking for to have a good time and party, you'll be prompt to leave the establishment if any sign of excitement is shown. Its hard to recommend this place to anyone cause it just doesn't fit in any category quite well. Nevertheless, this place has potential for greatness and will still be serving customers on the daily. Was very disappointed in our service this evening. We were two people and when we arrived ordered our drinks (rum and coke and water). They tried to bring back a single shot of rum in a glass... no coke and no water. I had to ask the waitress 4 times for a glass of water which was only brought after our food was served. When we finished our food we waited 30 minutes for a take out box and our bill. There was only 1 waitress working, 1 person clearing tables and then a third person wiping salt shakers and sitting down talking to people she knew.. assuming the owner.
