Shoebox Cantina — Restaurant in New Glasgow

We were visiting New Glasgow and looking for a place nearby for dinner when we came across this restaurant online. We called just before arriving and spoke with a very kind staff member who reserved a table for us. Since we mentioned we were coming with two young kids, they even had a drawing bucket and crayons ready at the table, such a thoughtful detail that I truly appreciate.

The atmosphere was lively and fun, the place was busy when we arrived, and we were welcomed warmly by the same friendly woman we spoke to on the phone, along with Don, who was serving tables that evening.

The wait for food ended up being very long, over an hour, which was tough with little ones. At one point we considered leaving, but the staff reassured us it would only be 10 more minutes. During that time, the lovely server brought the kids a little treasure box with toys to choose from, which was such a cute touch. Don also came over to sincerely apologize, offered us mocktails and complimentary nachos, and made sure we felt acknowledged.

I always believe mistakes can happen, what really matters is how they’re handled. Don and his colleague worked so hard all evening, and the way he expressed his apology truly softened the situation. For that alone, they deserve 5 stars.

As an extra bonus, later in the evening a singer with a guitar performed live, and she was wonderful, such a nice addition to the vibe.

Our dining experience at the restaurant was quite enjoyable with a few minor inconsistencies. My son's cheese quesadilla, unfortunately, arrived overcooked, resulting in a hard texture that detracted from its flavor. I had the steak fajitas, which were really good—tender, flavorful, and perfectly cooked. My wife’s sweet potato tacos were a highlight—really tasty with a great balance of flavors.

The overall ambiance of the restaurant was delightful. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, creating a cozy and pleasant dining environment. The service was also exceptional; the staff were attentive, friendly, and ensured we felt well taken care of throughout our meal, which significantly enhanced our dining experience.

Despite the minor issue with my son's quesadilla, the excellent service, inviting ambiance, and delicious dishes like the steak fajitas and sweet potato tacos made for a very positive dining experience. It’s a place we would definitely consider returning to, earning it a solid 4...

Went here for the first time tonight for a date night and was absolutely shocked at how wonderful the food and waitstaff were. Everyone is so kind and personable and the food is off the charts amazing. Ordered the Kimchi and egg bowl and on top of arriving super fast it was the best kimchi ive had in months, it tingled the tongue just perfectly. Their signature spanish toast that we had for desert was also absolutely amazing, I dont normally partake in desert but when it came to the table I had to try it and Im so glad I did because it totally blew me away. Our waiter was Don and the bartender also came to check on us lots but i didnt catch his name, both were outstanding at their jobs and so fun and easy to chat with as we enjoyed our meal.
