We had lunch here after one of our trips into Gros Morne. We were told by several sources (both local and other tourists) that the burgers were good here. So, we went to try the burgers/hot sandwiches and added a “Jack Attack” (JA). The fish burger and the regular burger were both just spot on—good ol’ homemade goodness. They aren’t huge or anything drastic but just well executed dishes. The JA was just crazy! It was like a Newfoundlander version of poutine where fries meets sloppy joe. I don’t know what was in there but it was so good! We also ordered a large version of the coleslaw to complete the meal. The food is comfort at its best. The atmosphere is homey and unassuming but had enough seating and was clean. Service was friendly and quick. There weren’t any issues while eating here and we were happy that we checked this little place out. Food is simple but well done and tasty (don’t expect to eat healthily though… it isn’t exactly good for your heart but that’s the point when you’re on vacation), and service etc was exactly was we expected it to be.

Good takeout. Nice location and view of Rocky Harbour out back at the picnic tables. Delicious fish and chips. It's nice to come back 7 years later to see they are still just as good. PREVIOUS: Great fish and chips, fried cod, cod au gratin, cod nuggets, french fries, and an interesting "Jack Attack" loaded fries that I would pass on next time. Food gets a 5! Good prices (for the area) especially for the big portions you get. Decor is very basic, but you go there for the food and nothing else. Not a lot of space and busy inside. A far walk from the street Rocky Harbour but worth it. Go to Earle's near by if this is full. Doesn't take credit cards.

Just finished dining at Jackie’s. I edited the hours of operation. Couldn’t take a picture of the hours because they were using one of those digital boards and it would flicker when I take a picture. Basically open we’d, thu, sat and Sunday. From 1130am-7.00pm. Closed Mon, Tue and Friday. I guess this is for the season. Basically no table service. You order and pay at the counter. Pick up at counter when it’s ready. There are 4 tables you can sit on. Basically self service. Fish and chips are probably the best on the west end on the island and top 4 in the province. Batter crisp and light.

Recommended by the wildlife museum who obviously are getting free advertising on the place mats. Walked in and waited 10 minutes to be seated with over 4 tables empty. Servers kept walking in and out of the kitchen, looking at us but at no point acknowledging we were there.

Got seated. Menu looked good. Ordered our drinks while we mulled over the menu. Server comes back and asks for our order. Place an order for two clubhouse sandwiches, no tomato, extra mayo and fries dressing and gravy. I asked that my fries be put on a separate plate cause I did not want gravy on my sandwich. Server says ok and brings the order to the kitchen.

Server returns and notifies me that if I want two plates it is two separate meals and will cost x amount of dollars more. Because a platter comes on one plate. Fine put them on the same plate. Meal comes out....husbands order is perfect. Mine is full of tomatoes, and a piece of chicken/turkey big enough for the first bite of each point on the sandwich and of course soggy w gravy. Fine.

Take my sandwich and move it to my napkin, remove the tomato, fuming at this point because there was only two other tables occupied so they weren’t busy enough to read the order incorrectly. Take my first bite of the sandwich.....smoosh....that is the only way I can describe the texture of this sandwich.

So I take a closer look.....it has processed boiled ham and a cheese slice in it....that don’t go on a clubhouse. So I put my now mangled sandwich back on the napkin and go to eat my fries dressing and gravy. No flavour at all. Fries nasty, gravy, water w flour and browning I imagine, and the dressing which was bread crumbs.

Over $40 for this meal that was completely inedible. Don’t go there. Drive to Deer Lake or go to Norris Point. They charged the lady ahead of us for her glass of tap water.

Being a tourist location doesn’t mean you have the right to serve sub standard food, charge $15+ for a meal and give you a can of pop with no glass or straw.

No apologies, no nothing. I was so angry that we just paid and left. Who was I going to dispute with? The cook who refused two plates, the server who was all of 16, the young waitress who didn’t wash the whole table....yup, she washed just where the people were sitting and added new place mats. Clean the friggin table.

This place is a truly disgusting place to eat. Health inspector should review. Oh, almost forgot, the lovely hair in my fries that rendered them inedible as well.

Disgusting service. This is NOT how you represent out beautiful province. Have some pride...
