The Barn Cafe — Restaurant in Newfoundland and Labrador

Great food, but service seemed to be lacking. Came here from out of town with a group of about 10 people. We all ordered a drink and lunch. Our server immediately seemed almost annoyed with us while taking our drink orders, but was friendly enough. Drinks did take a while to come out. I had the Cranberry Margherita, and while it was ok, the salted rim was so overpowering, I had to wipe a section clean to drink it. Lunch was served a bit faster thankfully, and everything looked and tasted great. Unfortunately, this is where the service really dropped off. No one came back to check on how or food was, and then the waitress immediately brought out our bills out once we were almost done eating. We were never asked if we wanted anything else, which is disappointing because I wanted to order something from their dessert menu, but it felt like we had somehow overstayed our welcome. When our bills were brought out, there was no communication from the waitress to see who was with who, and we then had to sort out the mess with the bills. food was all disgusting, grapes were missing on the charcuterie board, drinks were only 75% full and service was essentially nonexistent. our server seemed annoyed that we were asking questions about the food, and was extremely unhelpful throughout the entire meal. it took an hour for our food to come out, the beer was served warm, and she never once came to check on us during the meal. my chicken was rubbery and the panini was as hard as a rock. was really hoping to enjoy the barn cafe as i’ve heard great things, but i certainly won’t be back to visit after the mediocre service and food we received. we were seated outside, and things were flying off the table. we had asked prior to being seated if there was a table inside, we were told only outdoors was available but there was only two tables at the time we arrived, they also had the music playing so loudly outside that i couldn’t even hear my family members that were sat right next to me. this is probably one of the worst dining experiences i’ve ever had. the only plus was getting to see...

The food was delicious. Menu prices are high. My veg sandwich was expensive and a side was +$8. However, I was not disappointed. Quality ingredients and full of flavor. I was concerned that the veg sandwich had eggplant spread and not grilled eggplant but it was wonderful. I love my eggplant and thoroughly enjoyed the flavors of the spread version. It was a long wait to order for a Tuesday lunch but food wait was not as long as I had settled in and prepared for. CHARMING is how I describe the overall restaurant. The decor, entrance area, dishes, glassware, ceiling-walls-floor thoughtfully themed. I loved the oak barrels under the washroom sinks. Lots of seating (hence the 2 busy waitstaff were running constantly however VERY friendly and 5* to those nice ladies), I saw a table of 6 and 4s seated, Large patio (very clean!) and also tucked away tables if you prefer darker and cozy.
