Muir's Bakery is a gem within a small town. Anyone can cook a breakfast and most people can pick up a little something while they are out.
However...if you want to forgo the fast food and if you want to forgo making breakfast AND you are in Maxville, you would serve you and yours well if you stop by this little bakery that not only "could" but does.
I love breakfast joints. My first step at a new place is to eat their pancakes or French toast.
Both are strong indicators as to whether the location is a "ready made" (add water) location or a "from scratch".
Muir's is the former.
I started with the French toast and it won me over. From there all of the breakfast food available is bang on. No surprises and no loss in quality. It always makes leaving home a good idea for their breakfast.
Now here is the kicker, they make and man oh man they bake.
Their selection is fantastic. I would start with the sausage rolls for a take home sampler. You will go back for everything else.
They do fresh bread. They do traditional haggis and non traditional haggis.
They do it all* and they do it well.
*I haven't discovered what they can't do but I do like everything that they do do (10 points for making you say do-do).
They have a great seating area. Wheelchair access out back.
Be sure to get there early enough as church lets out on Sunday and most folk add it to their day.

Read moreMy partner, who is from the Isle of Arron, and I think Muirâs has the best haggis in the Ottawa valley, delicious meat pies, sausage rolls and everything else that they make.
Itâs been a tradition for several years now that we get a few haggisâs and a couple dozen meat pies every year to celebrate Rabbie Burns day. Theyâve always had consistent high quality, and our friends always rave about how good the food is. Even people who are afraid to eat haggis in the past have tried the haggis from Muirâs and have said it tastes so much better than they expected. They usually go on to fill up their plate and dig in.
They are definitely worth the drive if you donât live nearby, but you might want to call ahead and possibly preorder if you want to be sure theyâll have what you are looking for. Muirâs is...
Read moreI stopped by for the first time after reading a FB recommendation and was won over by the old-time feel of the bakery. I was greeted with a smile and patiently walked through their offerings. I specifically came for their butter tarts, but left with their turnovers (apple, cherry, blueberry). All were very delicious!
There was a limit of 6 butter tarts per client due to their popularity, but you can call ahead if you need more. Call first to confirm how much lead time is required.
The bakery is just 5 minutes off highway 417, so it's easy to get to. NOTE: There are stairs so it's not...
