The ambiance is great. We went there after a long day driving around and I was wearing a hoodie with proper pants. We were definitely dressed the most casual of the guests there. The maître d’hotel welcomed us nicely but it’s downhill after that. All the waiters treated us really differently from other customers.
No explanation of the food arrived, not even talking to my face when asking if I’m done with the food. We speak French but they insisted to switch to English every time we speak?! (We were speaking Turkish between each other and switching to French when the waiter arrived) I understand that it’s an upscale place but I find the service completely unacceptable. I’ve been to other Relais Chateaux spots before and this is the worst treatment I’ve had. I mean you get a better service at any other bar in Montreal.
Now on to the food. Delicious salad, overcooked fish, heavy desert. We paid $210 for 2 entree, two main courses and a glass of wine each. Not worth it especially with this service. Sorry to the back of the house but your colleagues at the front of the house just makes this experience a less than...
Read moreOur first visit to the Tap Room. Unfortunately it did not live up to our expectations. It always all depends on what we expect and where we are. But we are at a Relais & Chateau, so yes we expected a little more. Here os our evaluation and why: The service was attentive but not outstanding but very polite. The food was ordinary. We ordered poutine which seems to be drowning in sauce. The mushroom soupe was an insipid pure, probably the worst mushroom soupe I have had for a very long time. The burgers were ok but nothing memorable unfortunately. We could have lived with ordinary food and distracted service but what made the entire experience somewhat painful was the lack of ambience. No music at all on the terasse; we could follow everyone’s conversation without any effort which made it very uncomfortable. A little soft music such as lounge or even classical music would have made the entire experience much more pleasant. The Manoir Hovey is none the less a...
Read moreOne of our favorite stops on the way home from Canada adventures. The taproom has a modern rustic wilderness lake camp vibe complete with fireplace for its interior decoration that’s as warm and welcoming as the staff. Bartenders sling amazing mixed drinks and they have a fairly extensive wine list for a bar atmosphere. The food is basic pub fare but elevated (think herb and nut pâté over sea bass on a bed of potato purée vs fish and chips for example) and oysters are always so fresh and shucked to perfection! The best part for us is the awesome staff that have a perfect balance of offering you a nice private dinner experience while also being so attentive and kind that you feel like you are friends coming over for dinner rather than just a customer dining in an establishment. We love Le Hatley Restaurant next door as well for a longer and more formal farm to table dinner/gastronomic experience - but the tap room is our go to for well prepared...
