Update 2 - Feb 14, 2025 Valentine's Day dinner at Sansho we each tried the Sansho Gozen dinner. What a feast! It's like a multi course tasting menu. Started with miso soup and a small, refreshing dinner salad, followed shortly thereafter with the first of two bento boxes. Box 1 Had 5 pieces of sashimi (2 sockeye and 3 tuna), 3 nigiri (salmon, tuna, saba), one good size piece of agedashi tofu, mini sunomono and mini goma-ae. Before we finished this, the second box arrived with hot items: 3 pieces chicken karaage, miso black cod, 5 pieces tempura, chicken teriyaki. And a big bowl of rice. We had a second meal from the leftover chicken and rice! Really great for $37.95 and easily enough for two to share, which is what we'll do next time. Update 1. Sansho continues to maintain a high level of service and food quality. They were slammed by 6:00pm the other night and it's getting that a reservation is prudent, even for an early dinner. On our most recent visit we tried green tea zaru soba with tempura, the tempura was lightly coated and not a bit of grease. Excellent! Original review. Been here a few times in the past couple of months and everything has consistently been very good. Service is prompt and polite, prices are good value and ambience is nice. Our favourites are Agedashi Nasu, Spicy Agedashi Tofu, Salmon Kama, Negi-Toro roll and Spicy Tuna roll. Maki rolls are generous with the fillings and taste very fresh.

I feel like I was transported to Japan through this meal. Hands down the best bento I’ve had in the lower mainland. Every part of the bento box was excellent. High quality ingredients. You can tell they put in great care and thought into curating each component of the box. The box itself looks small, but it was so filling. The tempura normally comes with two prawns, a ginormous piece of yam, and a zucchini. I substituted it with the vegetable tempura, which came with two yams, one green bean, one zucchini. The tempura was perfectly coated with batter and lightly fried. Paired nicely with the tempura sauce. The California roll was delicious and had a light mayo like sauce inside. The ginger had just the right amount of pickling. Not too sweet, not too spicy, and not too sour. The wasabi tasted fresh and paired nicely with the roll. The gomae was great and a nice surprise that you don’t often find in a bento. The chicken teriyaki was very flavourful, juicy, with crispy skin. Although, it doesn’t look like it, it was a very solid portion size. The salad was so refreshing and the ginger dressing they used was nice and creamy. They sell the dressing too, 250 mL for $4.50. Overall, a 10/10 meal. Highly recommend! 😊

One of the best somewhat hidden sushi joints in North Vancouver that offers variety of fresh seafood rolls and nigiris. The presentation and the food quality are a top notch, and the staff are friendly and very helpful. We were happy with our order, but I especially enjoyed the Chirashi donburi with the large variety of seafood that was satisfyingly fresh and well presented. This place could charge a lot more for the food if they were located in Kitsilano or Yaletown emphasizing that they are authentic Japanese cuisine. As for the food, the sushi pizza is a great starter if you feel for something crunchy and all sushi rolls are creamy, and the dressing and sauces are not overwhelming. However, back to that Chirashi don, it was something else. It included sake, sabo, kanpachi, hamachi, tako, katsuo, hotate, ebi, amaebi, and hokkigai. they do not just fill you with rice and tobiko, masago or ikura. You get 14 or 15 pieces of seafood and you get a separate rice bowl with a piece of BBQ unagi, tobiko and shiitake mushrooms. You also get a miso soup for $23. Our experience overall was quite pleasant with the place and definitely recommend it to non-residents of North Vancouver.

A hidden gem. It's very difficult to find Japanese-owned/run sushi places, and this one is in a quaint little family neighbourhood on Queensbury just off Grand Boulevard, south of Loutet field.

The restaurant is well-appointed. One side is filled with booths while the other side is open tables, perfect for families. The food is consistently good. We've been here at least 15 times and have never disappointed.

For people who like udon, the beef one is an excellent choice. Kids who normally don't eat much polish off entire bowls.

For those who like sushi, the chirashi sushi bowl shows off their fresh fish and other bits in all their glory. The rice is perfect.

For those who like rolls, we've had both dynamite and tuna. The shrimp tempura inside was freshly fried, which adds to the texture of the roll.

For those who like appetizers, the agedashi tofu, chicken yakitori, and goma-ae were bang on.

For those who like teriyaki, get the dinner size because for the extra $4.45 you get miso soup, rice and even your choice of sashimi/tempura. Again, the tempura is fried to perfection. Every time.

The piece de resistance is the Black Cod: it's a cooked dish, one of the more difficult ones to make, so have it at Sansho.

Oh, they also have a sake sampler for only $9 but you'll have to try it for me since I'm...

Ordered take out via Google map option (apparently I chose store front by doordash), honestly I just chose whichever that lets me order for pick up and paid w Google pay. (Bcuz there isnt another option thats without any doordash or uber or whatever). Anyway Super easy. They sent a text saying when order is expected and sent another saying it's ready for pick up. It's great. The only problem tonight was the staff. I went to the cashier and this lady she asked for my name. So I told her my name. And she kept asking me about combo. I told her I don't understand, my name is Eve, I see my order, I can show u my ID (so I showed her my ID). And she just kept asking me if I'm w door dash or Uber or whichever company. I said no I just ordered it on Google. She would NOT stop asking. Honestly. Why do u think I order take out ? I'm tired. I don't wanna cook tonight. Im hungry. Im hangry. I just fking want my food!. So finally I just told her, can I please just have my food? I gave you my name my ID. What more do u need? She still kept asking me about the store front or company thing. I honestly don't even know how it works, if you guys want people or order take out , maybe like update the methods or update the staff so they can speak better English or something? The customer really only want the food. So don't make this...
