Chummy's Grill — Restaurant in Ontario

I went to chummys on the 14th of June 2025 with my soon to be wife at 1:45pm. There was only 5 or 6 tables of people being served at the time and our waitress came to take our order. We got some water, a pop and a coffee to start. Our waitress came back for the food order and i asked "can we get an Indian taco each and a combo platter please?". The waitress took the order and went to the back.

When the waitress came back, we received 1 Indian taco and the combo platter, she then asked if I wanted a coffee top up and I declined, then she left. My partner and I both assumed she'd be coming back with the other taco and so we didn't bring it up at the time. About 10-15 min went by, she never came back.

The other waitresses would go by our table and look but nobody came to our table, so I brought it up to another waitress in passing and said "excuse me, we ordered 2 of these" so she asked the other waitresses who was serving us and once she found out, she went to the back.

Another 15-20min went by and our original waitress came back, placed the food down and left quickly and immediately without saying anything, asking if we needed anything or so much as making eye contact. At this point we both felt awkward in the situation, wondering if we did something wrong.

I was thirsty and would've liked another water and coffee but never got the chance. We were there til 2:50pm and I had to ask another waitress for to-go containers because nobody was coming to our table. At this point there was only 3 groups of customers in the restaurant being served so it was very frustrating to deal with the lack of communication and service. After getting things packed away, I went to the front to pay and I was then told by another waitress that we were switched over to her, however there was no communication, no proper service and no apologies. I would've felt better in the situation if maybe some issue internally was happening and it was communicated, but no such luck.

I've gone there pleanty, even was there when the power went out and had 100% better service then than when we went on the 14th. To date, this has been my worst experience at any restaurant and I'm not impressed. The food is good, the atmosphere is good and the service is usually great, however after that, I don't believe I'll be dining...

I am using my husband's account to leave this review since it's the one I am logged into and we were both at Chummy's today. Before Covid, this was one of our favorite restaurants. Not anymore. I had 3 previously bad experiences in the last 18 months, but this is the 4th and it's time to let you know that you need to change something before it's too late. We ordered soup and we didn't get it. We both ordered hot sandwiches and the bread was stale. My hot beef consisted of 2 very thin slices of overcooked beef that was surrounded by fat. I had to cut in between the fat to get to what beef there was. There was hardly any gravy on my plate, so I asked for more. That never came. I was unable to eat the mashed potatoes because there wasn't enough gravy. Since I'm talking about gravy, we used to love your gravy. What has happened? It was so watery. I have talked to a lot of people lately who have shared their similar experiences with me, so I'm just letting you know that we are not alone in noticing that things have changed in a negative way. I sincerely hope that you can find a really good cook who lives up to the standards and quality that you used to be known for. They didn't bring our food out together and then I noticed they didn't put cheese on my burger and there wasn't much gravy my cheese on my poutine wasn't melted. The person I was with was half done their meal by the time the waitress noticed me waiving. When I explained there was no cheese and asked for a bit more gravy she said she would take it have it fixed and would put it in to go containers. I was there for my birthday lunch and wasn't given the option to eat in the restaurant I felt kicked out. I had wanted to order desert and I have a head injury so I don't get out much I didn't even have time to finish my pop. Then when I got home and opened my cold food to eat I noticed she just put the food from my plate in the box they didn't put the cheese, ketchup or more gravy. I couldn't eat my food when home it was too dry. My birthday was ruined. I was in tears when leaving and told the waitress I wanted to eat my birthday lunch in the restaurant with the person I was with and she ignored me. Don't waste your money going to this...
