The Joy Bakery cafe is a quaint and lively small town cafe and if you don’t have children, I’m sure your experience will greatly differ from my own. With that being said, my husband and I stopped by the cafe for a snack and a cup of java with my parents and our 3 year old daughters to discuss a property investment that we were checking out near by. My 2 daughters were laughing and giggling on the bench across from us with their grandma. The girls were calm and at about the same decibel level of the surrounding tables. Admittedly, the frequency at which kids laugh and speak will be higher than an adult, due to them having smaller vocal cords, but people naturally assimilate to the noise levels of their environment in order to be heard. Evidently, the ear piercing sound of their laughter was just too much for 1 barista to bare, who ineloquently (to say the least) told the two three year olds that they need to be quiet. The 10 second interaction left 1 of my daughters tearing up and the other literally hiding under the table, with an expression like we just took Ol’ Yeller out back. We were alerted to the altercation between the 20 something year old barista and our three year olds from the sound of their grandmothers jaw hitting the floor in disbelief. Rest assured, we’ll be sparring the Joy Bakery Cafe of the deafening sound of our kids laughs and giggles, as well as the contents of our wallets going forward. Quite the ironic name...
Read moreUsed to love the Chai latte from here, until today. Let it steep as usual, or so I thought, but it wasn't until I got home I realized there was no bag in the bottom of my cup and ended up NOT enjoying my cup of frothed milk. Not sure if taking the bag of tea out is a thing now, but I'll be waiting til I go to the city to get one if that's the case. Yeah, I could ask for the bag to be left in, but it was never an issue before. 2 minutes is not near enough time for a Chai to steep to get a half decent flavour. Why change it?
Response to Joy......
If you don't use the bags, I apologize, I just know what I had from you on my last visit is NOT what I've received in the past. I don't get them that often because all those drinks, even in the city, are over priced, and if I do get a craving I make it at home, waaaaay cheaper. The shop with the bags is what I usually get, again this happens rarely due to over pricing. My daughter brought me one from you and it was great, I've been another couple times with the wife and again, good stuff. This last time I came turned me right off. Not sure if the syrup was forgotten but I wasn't impressed. I wish you well, it just won't be with my money. Thank you for your response to my...
Read moreThe good: had a couple baked goods, they were very good. Appreciated that there was options for a small sweet at an affordable price. The not so good: the oat mile seperated in my americano. It is not uncommon as the high heat and acidic coffee often makes this happen. The barista tried to tell me it was crema. It was not, crema floats on top. This was suspended all through. She made me another immediately without my prompting. When I tried to have conversation she kept cutting me off and gave me a free coupon. It was really annoying as I was continually cut off and dismissed. She referred me to the owner who was outside but I just wanted to move on. I drank the coffee, it was ok. I would have asked for one with dairy but if I wasn’t continually cut off. I love to support the local coffee shops, might give this one another try depending on who is behind...
