This is a nice, family restaurant. Although a very narrow space, the tall, open ceiling made it feel less confined. Very nice decor, the pancake lampshade over each table is a nice touch.
The food was very good, but a bit on the expensive side. We were lucky enough to be in early and get the breakfast special (Monday to Friday, 7am -9 am), this is, two eggs, choice of bacon, ham or sausage, home fries, toast with jam; the special price is $4.99, compared to the regular price of just over $7.00.
The service was excellent, the server was friendly and attentive, however... The reason I am only giving 2 stars is, one of the other servers conduct. I am not sure if this is a health code violation, or just bad practice, but in every restaurant I have ever worked in, eating in front of the customers is out of the question, you eat in the back, out of sight, and you must wash your hands after touching your mouth, nose, etcetera.
This restaurant has an open "staging" area, where they collect the food to take to tables, coffee brewing, etcetera, the staging area has a sink, soap dispenser and paper towel dispenser. I am not sure if the server was eating two slices of toast, or a sandwich, but she would eat directly hand to mouth, walk past the sink, pick up plates and take food to tables, come back and do it again; if this had been my server, I would have walked out.
I don't necessarily blame the server, I think this is a management problem, either improper training and/or enforcement. This leads me to think of other violations that may or may not happen behind the scenes. Because of this, I will be hesitant...
Read moreRead the mixed reviews on this new restaurant and decided to try it out. We went in a Sunday at noon and were shown our booth almost immediately. We were asked our choice of drinks as we were immediately given menus. Our drinks were served in less than a minute and constantly replenished throughout our meal. I ordered the meat lovers breakfast and my wife ordered stacks and eggs. Nice to see actual potatoes were served for home fries and not mass produced deep fried as in many other local restaurants. Breakfast arrived quickly and the meal was hot and eggs cooked exactly as we ordered, over easy with the egg white fully cooked and the yoke soft. The pancakes were very flavourful and fully cooked. The serving staff was very friendly and attentive. The only problem we had was the seating location. We were seated at the front near the door. On a cold day you could feel the cold air every time someone entered. The restaurant is obviously aware of the problem as there was a space heater placed on the window shelf in an attempt to over come the draft. The building of a second inner door as done in other restaurants in Orangeville could easily overcome this but being a leased space I am not sure this is possible. The prices are reasonable given the portion size. I especially liked the home made strawberry jam that comes with your toast. Peanut butter would be a nice accompaniment. I will definitely be going back and I would tell others to read the negative postings with suspicion and a huge grain of salt. I look forward to my next visit which wonât be that far into the future. Welcome to Orangeville...
Read moreJust an overall poor experience. People around us who were seated after had their drinks and orders taken before us. I had to stop a server twice, once to get drinks and another time to order.
We watched food come out all around us, but not for us. Those same people who were seated after us were done eating before I had to stop the server yet a third time and ask what was up with our order. Her response? They had a big take-out order from Toyota that took a lot of time. That told me a lot about how they prioritize customers inside the restaurant.
When we finally received our food it was average at best. My daughter's pancakes were ok I guess - I would expect better from a pancake house - and my French toast was "undercooked" in the middle.
When I talked to the manager, I focused on the 45 minutes it took from when we sat down until when our food came out. His response? They sold more pancakes then they expected. Ummm... pardon? What's the second word in the name of your restaurant? Thought so.
I won't be back here. Save your time, support a local business, and take your appetite to Deja Vu 3 minutes up the street. The service is fast and extremely friendly, my coffee mug is never empty, and the one time out of about 50 that I've sent eggs back new eggs came out almost immediately. And without...
