The short version: when you eat here, expect to get mediocre food that is overpriced with good service.

My family and I dined in here for lunch, after a morning of skiing to warm up and fuel up before heading back out onto the slopes. There's nothing else in the area except the on-resort dining options unless you're willing to drive 10-15 minutes away, so you're a captive audience when staying here. So, it's expected that prices would be quite high, as you're also paying for the convenience of walking straight in off the slopes, then you can head straight back out. That convenience is undeniable.

The food, however, was less than impressive. I don't need, and wouldn't expect a gourmet meal when I'm out on the slopes, but I'd like to enjoy my meal if I'm paying so much for it. The highlight of the meal was the mozza sticks. Everyone loved the appetizer and we could easily have had another order. Crispy batter on the outside without being too greasy and soft, melted cheese that strings out when you're taking a bite. Sadly, it was all downhill from there. Both the grilled chicken and black bean avocado burgers were bland, and the chicken was dry. My daughter had the penne with alfredo sauce, which I tried, and it was like eating plain pasta. They were at least able to get the fries right though, as you could tell they were freshly prepared - hot and crispy without being burnt or reheated. My son's pizza was decent, if a bit doughy.

The service was great. The staff was friendly and very attentive throughout our meal, so that was a plus. I just wish they did a better job on the food. We even specifically avoided dishes like the big bowls as pubs like to add them to the menu since they have become so popular, but they generally do better at cooking up the comfort foods like burgers and fried stuff. Maybe go even safer and stick with a hamburger or fish and chips?

In the end, if I visit the resort again in the future, I'd still consider returning here, but the main factor would be the convenience of being right next to the slopes. Set your expectations low for the food and you'll be fine. You'll get sustenance in your belly and then you can be back enjoying the...

Female Server Complaint About Poor Service

To the manager,

I am writing this complaint regarding the food and service at your restaurant. On behalf of my family, I would like to highlight a few points regarding this issue. We had early dinner at your restaurant on July 16, 2022 - Saturday. We expected to have a great time at your restaurant, but unfortunately, we did not.

This female server at your restaurant behaved rudely and unprofessionally. She is a white female, with light pink balyage/highlighted long hair, around mid to late thirties, 5'5 or 5'6 height who works at the outdoor patio. We had to wait for a long before we could place the orders. She spoke rudely while taking the orders. She rudely told us to move to the other table far away from the other customers while she was giving us racial and discriminatory remarks about us being "these brown people" with a condescending attitude and high tone of voice.

You can actually identify her right away with the description stated above as she was last seen staying inside at the Kawartha Ice Cream shop at the patio with another server with black hair later that day. You can go figure that out easily who it was with the color of her hair.

Poorly cooked food is another issue that made us regret visiting your restaurant. We were surprised to find out that the chicken in the curry bowl that we had ordered were still raw.

The chicken tasted a bit sour, and the vegetables was badly cooked. We complained about the food to your staff, but they refused to respond.

Besides the poorly served food, we also felt uncomfortable with the unhygienic conditions at your restaurant. The food was stale.

These awful conditions are harmful as they might get food poisoning and other health problems.

The service was very pathetic and ruined our beautiful evening. I insist you recruit well trained and well-behaved staff who knows how to behave with the customers.

Thank you.

Yours...

All of our food was either undercooked or over cooked. Horrible service. Took almost 10 minutes to get a server to see us and the restaurant was dead. The waiter said he would bring us another cheesy garlic bread (because ours was cold on the inside) and we finished our meal and still...no bread. My boyfriends steak was almost freezer burnt inside but he ate it anyway because he was hungry and it clear he wasn't coming back anytime soon. My fish was burnt and my rice was uncooked. The waiter took our plates from us without even asking if we wanted the bill, dessert, etc. I had finished my cocktail before dinner and he didn't even ask if I wanted another drink or water. After taking our plates away, server proceeded to take orders at table right beside us. After taking their orders, he just walked away without even acknowledging us. Ended up waiting another 10 minutes for our bill. When he finally brought the crumpled up bill he tossed it on our table and walked away? He finally came back after another 10 minutes randomly with the machine, set it up and walked off. We paid and walked out before he even came back. Most of the night he was just standing behind the bar with all of the other hostesses. We had such high hopes but boy this place has...

Food is ok but definitely overpriced. Some of the servers were rude too, which I am guessing because they are understaffed. Food took too long to come.

Unfortunately the combination of having captive customers and corporation style thinking result in this place being mediocre at best. I've been to several Freed owned resorts, the food is literally the same.. They buy it from a supplier frozen and simply reheat it. The staff are generally really good. They do their best, but I bet they get really tired of having to field complaints about the semi cold food and bland taste. I attached a picture of my kids $14 "pizza" which he wouldn't touch. I could make something twice as good for half the price. I would have happily gone somewhere else, but we tried it just for the heck of it because we were there. Still bad. But nice scenery, nice location, nice patio, and nice wait staff. Beer was good too. Shame the food doesn't hold up.
