Kiko Sushi Bar, located in the Preston Square Building at the iconic Preston street in little Italy, just a stroll from Down's lake and Ottawa's Arboretum, is a culinary little gem that deserves a visit for a taste of reality good sushi.
I had ebi tempura 🍤 and a Maki platter 🍱 that was absolutely delectable, the tempurized shrimp were cooked to perfection, the batter was nice and crispy while the 3 different varieties of rolls, 6 cucumber rolls, 6 California rolls, and 6 spicy runs rolls, all of them had character and very precise flavours, from the clean, fresh crispy crunchy cucumber roll, the spicy California roll with its sezt of spiced up mayo to the moderately piquant flavourful umammy rich tuna, the experience was greatly pleasant.
The presentation of the dishes are inviting, with a wabi-sabi character that makes it simple, yet elegant, nothing more nothing less.
Service is super friendly and courteous, attentive and with true concern for the patron's enjoyment. When you found yourself in Ottawa visiting little Italy and fell to have a wonderful sushi experience, make sure to drop by Kiko Sushi Bar. You'll not regret it!
PS the only little detail that didn't derail the experience was the fact that they didn't have calpis, though I'm sure they'll do...
Read moreThe food is nice, although more expensive than it should, likely due to the location. The staff is generally quite nice. However where they consistently drop the ball is on the take-out service. I have had several poor experiences, and it happened again today. They don't answer the phone before 4:30 p.m. I called at at 4:37 to place an order and was told that it would not be ready before 6:00 p.m. I asked why and was told that there were too many orders in line for take out... I argued that it did not make sense since they just opened. to my knowledge they don't take orders on line. I was told that these were orders that were made ahead of time, like yesterday. The food is nice, but this is a far cry from a 5 stars, clearly they are short staffed, or they just don't care. You would think that after 3 years of pandemic they would try to recoup their loss, apparently not. I even called once and was told that they would only offer the sushi menu that day. It is a long drive for us to get there, so since this situation has happened to us several times, and nothing has changed this is our last try. If you intend to go there, I suggest to go in person, don't waste you time trying to get take-out, unless of course you order days ahead...which frankly...
Read moreI'd give this a (7.75/10). When we first arrived the restaurant was empty so we were greeted right away and brought to our table. The waiter checked on us 3 times whilst we were deciding on our order and then when we ordered the waiter was helpful in the description of each dish and answered my questions. However even though the restaurant was empty we had to wait quite some time (maybe ~20 mins) for even our appetizer and then another 10 for our main course although there wasn't anyone but us for most of that time. By the time our order came a few other groups of people came. Onto the food itself now; the food was very fresh and all of what we ordered was very good and well made. Many of their options are interesting such as our "Mango Paradise" which was surprisingly good. After we were full it did not take long for the waiter to come with the bill and pack up the rest of our food. It was rather expensive in the end but mainly it was the assorted nigiri that was the most expensive and we liked that the least so aside form that the others were quite reasonable and very good. Overall, the experience was a good one and if you don't mind a bit of a wait the...
