Porto A Casa — Restaurant in Ottawa

I took my Italian family here for a birthday meal recently. I felt strongly enough to make a comment, mainly directed to the owners, for reason that I wish for the business continued success. The food very good but you can honestly make a HUGE difference by making one easy change by upping your pasta brand game. Unfortunately, the pasta you do serve seems to be of lower grade (Think Barilla/ItalPasta/Generic Grocery Store). You can tell its not the best quality as the the sauce doesn't stick to the pasta and definitely taste is different. For a few cents more I highly suggest you look to offer better quality pastas. Something that is bronze die cut (generally whiter in colour) and better drying times. Its honestly one reason why we may not come back to eat there. I should mention the service was fantastic and selection is great - Just take a hard look at your pasta...

I've heard only great things about this place and finally got to try it Friday evening. As recommended, we made a reservation. Our server was super friendly and attentive. We ordered the bruschetta to share. It was 6 servings with a fresh tomato mixture and melted cheese. tasty. I order the seafood stuffed shells which came with 4 large shells stuffed with a seafood mixture of, ricotta and topped with loads of tomato alfredo sauce. Everything was fresh and delicious and you could tell it was made from scratch. I was so stuffed I couldn't finish and brought half the meal home. The rest of the table ordered the veal parmigiana that came with a generous portion of pasta and red sauce, and the cannelloni that was stuffed with veal. Everyone enjoyed their meals. Definitely...

The food is always excellent. I love the spaghetti meatball, eggplant parm is excellent, tiramisu is pretty great. Salad is excellent. Portions are huge.

The staff are always friendly and answer the phone quickly when you call ( during business hours).

It can be difficult to get a table without calling ahead a day or two beforehand. That's a good sign of popular place.

Take out is usually available same day, but be prepared to wait at least 10 to 15 minutes past quoted pickup time.

This is not a deal-breaker for us, but still a bit annoying.

This is probably the best restaurant in Barrhaven and probably top five in the West End of the city.
